The thriving market town of Loughrea is just ten minutes’ drive away, with a medieval history and a wealth of amenities, whilst the crystal clear limestone lake can be found even closer, offering beautiful bathing waters, and showering and changing facilities should you fancy a refreshing dip during the summer season. Lough Rea is also an internationally important site for waterfowl, as well as providing some of the best trout fishing waters in the country. The bright city lights of cultural Galway City can be enjoyed in just over forty minutes’ drive, where you can wander its web of winding historical streets, dipping into the interesting shops, museums and art centres before stopping for a pint of the black stuff and a platter of oysters in the bay. The Wild Atlantic Way can be joined from here, and is definitely worthy of a day trip, with its towering sea cliffs, craggy inlets and 1500 miles of spectacular coastal scenery.
