Just a short drive away from this lovely Wexford cottage is the Hook Peninsula, which has the Ring of Hook coastal drive dotted with excellent seafood restaurants as well as ancient abbeys, crumbling castles and delightful beaches along with huge sea cliffs. Also not to be missed is the iconic lighthouse, the oldest of its kind in the world, proudly looking out to sea. This Wexford cottage is a wonderful base from which to tour this pretty corner of Ireland, and further west, but still within easy reach, is the medieval, star-shaped Duncannon Fort, which was built in 1588 and incorporates a maritime museum, Cockleshell Arts Gallery, Officer’s Mess Café and Craft shop, and from where spectacular seascapes can be enjoyed from its ancient ramparts. Spend the day in Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford, with its crooked, winding lanes housing some impressive architecture, and treat yourself to a souvenir from its celebrated Waterford House of Crystal.
