Why book a cottage in County Mayo?

Situated on the west side of the Republic of Ireland, with its coastline facing the Atlantic Ocean, County Mayo is a beautiful and beguiling region. Places to visit in County Mayo

Visit the old town of Ballinrobe featuring a castle, corn market and beautiful race course. Take a trip to the nearby village of Cong, where John Wayne starred in 'The Quiet Man'. Discover underground caves, go fishing in one of two lakes, or dine out in style at Ashford Castle, once home to the Guinness Family. Explore Westport and its atmospheric tree-lined streets, or climb the religious mountain of Croagh Patrick - the town's magnificent backdrop. 

The north of County Mayo is steeped in history and the Céide Fields Visitors' Centre is not-to-be-missed. This site is one of the world's most extensive Stone Age settlements, with houses and tombs preserved in peat amid a rare Neolithic landscape. Or fast forward to the 1850s and onwards at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life.
