What a fantastic week we have all had! Arrived to a clean, bright and spacious house. The house is in such a peaceful settings with all you being able to hear is cows and wildlife! Great way to start the morning, sat outside with a cup of tea. All the bedrooms are very spacious. Two bathrooms. One being a wet room. Shops and pubs are close by if you don’t want to travel far. Colin and Janet the owners are fantastic; they took the kids out in the tractor and on the quad and helped with the cows. The swing out back has created more play for the week. Janet’s freshly bakes scones were to die for! Colin & Janet couldn’t do enough for us, really good recommendations also. To eat we would recommend O’Connors in tinahely. And to drink, the dying cow. Also the farm shop in Tinahely is great too both for adults and kids. The house is 15 mins away for supermarket (Aldi). Lovely walks to Sally’s gap in county Wicklow. We will be back!

The property

This single storey, detached cottage is set amidst enclosed grounds, alongside one other Wicklow holiday cottage, on a working beef and sheep farm in the County Wicklow countryside, just one mile from the village of Shillelagh.

Charming and comfortable, this Wicklow cottage is well furnished and decorated, and offers stunning countryside views for miles around.

The open fire in the sitting room makes this Wicklow cottage cosy and welcoming, so after a long country walk taking in the crisp Irish air, you can toast your toes by the fire with a steaming mug of tea.

Outside this Wicklow cottage guests have use of a shared lawned area, as well as a private patio, great for dining alfresco and children will love using the swing available.

About the location

SHILLELAGH, COUNTY WICKLOW

Tullow 10 miles; Gorey 16 miles.

The village of Shillelagh in County Wicklow is a seventeenth century 'planned estate' village, with appealing architecture including attractive terraced cottages and a courthouse with clock tower. The Shillelagh stick, a well-crafted blackthorne stick originally used as a fighting weapon but now often used as an ornamental or walking stick, originated just outside the village, and visitors can visit workshops to watch local craftsmen continuing to produce this piece of Wicklow history. For walkers, the Wicklow Way runs past the village, and the nearby Tomnafinnoge Oak Wood, one of the largest remaining oak woods in Ireland, makes a lovely spot for an autumn stroll. Coolattin Golf Club is just outside the village, while slightly further afield, the Wicklow Mountains, city of Dublin, and 'Ballykissangel' village of Avoca make superb destinations for an enjoyable day trip. The nearest beach and harbour is a 35 minute drive away at the seaside holiday resort of Courtown. Slightly further afield, you can enjoy the Blue Flag, world-class white sandy beaches at Brittan Bay (45 minutes) and Curraghclose (50 minutes). Both are well worth visiting, whatever the weather.
