The property

This delightful dormer cottage, which once housed a donkey sanctuary, sits in the tiny townland of Gortcurka, 4.5 miles from Clare’s attractive village of Corofin and close to the county town of Ennis. This welcoming country cottage has been thoughtfully furnished to provide groups with homely holiday accommodation, perfect for those seeking the many sights of this popular corner of the Emerald Isle. With lovely views towards the Mullaghmore and Burren Hills and surrounded by sweeping greenery and thick pine woodlands, you really have a sense of being totally away from it all in this peaceful location, yet within easy reach of the popular towns and coast of this charming county. Set across the ground and first floors, the spacious accommodation includes four first floor bedrooms, along with a contemporary bathroom with both a bathtub and separate walk-in shower. The ground floor also offers a double bedroom and a shower room, which may be suitable for any guests with reduced mobility. The lovely, bright kitchen merges modern lighting and décor with a traditional finish and character features, including a delightful AGA, and provides a well-equipped place to prepare delightful dishes for the whole family. There’s also a breakfast bar and separate dining area to choose from, so why not feed the little ones and put them to bed, before settling down to share holiday plans over a bottle of wine with the grownups in your party? Afterwards, there’s a choice of two sitting rooms to retire to, one with a cosy open fire and a piano and the other with a solid fuel stove, so you’re sure to enjoy a very warm and comfortable evening. Outside, to the rear of the cottage is a well-maintained lawn and two neat patio areas with furniture, one accessed via the kitchen, and the other created from local Liscannor stone and reached via the living room. Set amongst flourishing countryside, from the garden you may be lucky enough to spot the local hares, foxes and even deer that call the peaceful surrounding woodland their home. This location is also a fantastic spot to enjoy views of the night sky. The traditional village of Corofin is just a short drive away, providing a good range of amenities and hosts a number of colourful festivals throughout the year. Ennis, also set beside the banks of the River Fergus, provides lots of further shops, restaurants and inns where you can sample the sounds of traditional Irish music to accompany a pint of local black stuff. Venture towards the coast for the day and discover the Cliffs of Moher; there are plenty of further wonders waiting at every twist and turn of the Wild Atlantic Way. This peaceful cottage in County Clare provides the perfect sanctuary to return to at the close of each day - a relaxing rural retreat you’ll long for, long after your holiday is over.
