“No garden with chairs front or back.”

Fireplace was lovely. If tall, watch your head between old and new sections! Needed a good non-slip mat in tub. Kitchen well appointed. Located far out in the country. Friendly hosts.

The property

Situated a short drive from the town of Kilrush and the Shannon ferry crossing at Killimer to North Kerry, this detached, ground floor cottage is surrounded by farmland with grazing animals.

The owners live on site and will share their extensive knowledge of County Clare making it a wonderful touring base for both County Clare and County Kerry.

Inside the 200-year-old cottage are two bedrooms, a double with an en-suite shower room, plus a room with twin beds.

The open plan living area has a well-equipped kitchen, a dining area as well as a sitting area which is set around an open fire, where you can gather together for a relaxing evening.

The garden at the back is shared, and you can explore the orchard and pluck an apple or two to munch on, but watch out for the donkeys that graze in the orchard; they are free to roam the surrounding land, and may pop over to say hello from time to time.

To the front of the cottage, you will find a second lawned garden where you can sit and enjoy a refreshing drink whilst planning tomorrow’s adventures.

Boat trips are available on the Shannon Estuary, where you can try and catch a glimpse of Europe’s largest group of bottlenose dolphins, or you can learn more about them at the Shannon Dolphin and Wildlife Foundation at Kilrush.

Golf enthusiasts can enjoy a round at the Kilrush Golf Club, or venture across the estuary to the Ballybunion Golf Club, or you can spend a day on the Blue Flag beach at Kilkee, with lovely golden sands and cliff top walks.

Visit the stunning Loop Head Peninsula to enjoy mesmerising seascapes of the Atlantic Ocean, and the famous Loop Head Lighthouse perched at the tip.

A wonderful cottage for exploring Ireland, all year round.
