About the location

DRIMOLEAGUE, COUNTY CORK

Skibbereen 8 miles; Bantry 12 miles; Clonakilty 22 miles.

Drimoleague is located in the south west of County Cork slightly inland, and between the popular towns of Bantry to the west and Skibbereen to the south. It nestles peacefully on the banks of River Ruggagh, a tributary of the Ilen River, which flows into Skibbereen. It has a converted mill which is now an artistic centre open to visitors, making and selling anything from small gifts such as earrings, necklaces and mirrors to larger items such as Tiffany lamps and stained glass windows. In the surrounding areas you will find beautiful walks including a heritage trail which begins only half a mile from the village. Nearby St. Finbarr’s monastery is well worth a visit, set in the middle of the romantic lake of Gougane Barra and now joined by a causeway for access. There is plenty to do in the village itself with a pitch and putt course and tennis and basketball courts to keep you active, and also a playground for children. The coastal attractions of West Cork are easy to reach with activities such as diving, sailing, fishing and boat trips all on offer. The perfect base from which to explore this beautiful corner of Ireland.
