The lively coastal town of Cahersiveen, birthplace of Daniel O'Connell, is ideally situated aside the River Fertha, at the foot of the Beentee Mountain, in beautiful County Kerry. Renowned in the 1800s for the salting of Atlantic fish, today the town retains strong links with the ocean, boasting an excellent harbour and a superb marina offering sailing, trout and salmon fishing and deep-sea angling opportunities. Cahersiveen provides an eclectic mix of traditional pubs and modern venues, together with a host of cafés, restaurants and interesting craft and antique shops, whilst monthly street fairs present visitors with an ideal opportunity to peruse the colourful stalls of curiosities and local produce. Cahersiveen is the principle town of the Kerry International Dark Sky Reserve making it a wonderful base for astronomers.
