“Not up to snuff--needs a lot of TLC”
1 Sneem Holiday House is a sad place. It is in a group of holiday cottages in the beautiful little village of Sneem. But alas, it is only one of a few cottages in this development that appears to be in use. The area is not maintained, the grass is long, the place is deserted. Sneem is plagued with a ghost village on the main road as you enter the village--42 empty cottages which were never finished and are deteriorating by the day. Sneem Holiday Village looks like it is in danger of becoming a ghost village as well. This village deserves better.
But to put the good before the bad….there are a working washer and tumble dryer. The bathrooms are nicely tiled. The leather couches are comfortable. The beds are comfortable. The furniture is rustic but sturdy, the caretaker is friendly and helpful. The location is perfect for walking everywhere. We hardly used our car.
But….even though we are apparently among the first visitors of the season, the place is in disrepair. The veneer is peeling off the kitchen cabinets and drawers, refrigerator drawers are broken, the deck and fence are very much in need of painting, the windows need to be washed, the bathroom faucets are loose and turn every time you turn them on, etc. The kitchen is poorly stocked. It has two towels and no pot holders, few serving dishes, very old flatware and a mishmash of dishes. There is no cable box for the television, so you just get the free channels.
The electricity is on a meter which you have to watch so that you don’t find yourself out of power. Even though we were cold most of the time, we used up the first 35 euros worth and had to buy another 10 euros to get to Saturday. The house just doesn’t hold the heat, and not all of the radiators work.
It appears that the owner doesn’t check out his rental very often. What needs to be done is not the work of the caretaker. The owner needs to hire somebody to do some basic maintenance and bring this place up to a better standard. While we love Sneem, we would not choose this holiday cottage again. There are others that are better maintained.
There appears to be no way to show pictures on this web page, because a picture is worth a thousand words.
