“We're do i start with this property?”

Beautiful location great outside space lots of potential!. The house was filthy when we arrived the absolute basic the beds were changed there was sand in every bathroom and hair balls in showers, one sink was full of water with a knife in it. Kitchen cupboards had remains from possibly several previous guests. One room had a full bin with sanitary products in utility sink was not cleaned for months, old socks under beds 1 shower had a plastic bag wrapped around it to I assume help to work ...

The house was filthy when we arrived the absolute basic the beds were changed there was sand in every bathroom and hair balls in showers, one sink was full of water with a knife in it. Kitchen cupboards had remains from possibly several previous guests. One room had a full bin with sanitary products in utility sink was not cleaned for months, old socks under beds 1 shower had a plastic bag wrapped around it to I assume help to work Damien did replace this however it still didn't work the water just shot out at the wall, toilet seat in one bathroom completely off, there were 2 large waste containers at the side of garage clearly the rubbish from the full summer guests piles high, the heating stopped working meaning we had no hot water at times Damien had to come to the house almost everyday to fix. When we contacted Sharon she told us sand was difficult to remove however when I requested she come back and redo the bathrooms amazingly it dissappread. When we spoke to her and her husband Damien about the state of the property they told us they just looked after it they told us they had nothing to do with it and to speak to Owen OMalley (the owner), they said they didn't get paid a penny to look after it and that's just what us donegal people do! Sharon did a 45 min clean I don't know about you but if the property was nothing to do with me I would not be cleaning it we found out after she is the registered cleaner however after her 45 min clean we had to remind her about the make up pads she had "forgotten" to lift in another room there were cigarette butt's outside also but again apparently while she was cleaning the rest of the house she forgot about these too, we were a family of 4 adults 2 elderly parents and 5 children this property was not at a basic hygienic standard and with covid standards still required this did not fill us with confidence. There are NO facilities to dispose of waste and by the end of the holiday we were most definitely ready to leave. We paid almost £2000 for this house it was disgraceful that we were greeted with the unacceptable standard, sykes themselves should be ashamed that you are allowing properties like this to be advertised on your site how do you manage these properties as it seems you are taking the word of the people apparently looking after them. I am aware this is not the first review like this, we trusted that a site like sykes was to be trusted but will definitely be reading reviews in future. If you are reading this and considering this property I am not over inflating my complaint this is genuine you should not book please Beware!!!!! Unfortunately we can not upload photos and videos or we would attach all the evidence you need.

Nice house. Lovely views. No information or instructions. Missing button on microwave. TV almost unusable with 4 or 4 stations. European plug been used - risk of electric shock!? Lots of digi boxes we couldn't get to work. Good showers.

“Seen some negative feedback on this property so was a bit apprehensive.”

There was no need. There was a very odd snag like working out how the cooking hob worked (no big deal and phone number of owner available if required, didn't need it myself). The value for money you get for a house this size and so well equipped leaves me wondering what was behind the negative feedback, someone looking a refund perhaps? We couldn't fault the house or the area. Like I said the very odd minor thing but what you would expect going into a different large house for the 1st time and the owners have clearly allowed for this in the rate. Entry instructions emailed and all went very smoothly without any hassle or phone calls. We booked, we stayed and enjoyed and we left - perfect. Games room with table tennis, jacuzzi bath, sauna and enough hot water to run a hotel added to the experience. Carraig Airt and Downings with hotels, bars, cafes only 10- 15mins away. Milfort the same with cafes, bars and a Lidl. If you're looking for a very large value for money house to rent I would recommend. 7 bedrooms all with ensuites! We have been taking holidays in Donegal every year for a long time and properties like this for the rate charged are few and far between.

“We went as a large group consisting of 7 adults, 5 children and two dogs.”

The house itself is in the most amazing setting and it is so large! Unfortunately we were greeted with cigarette butts outside the property. Only the TV in the main sitting room worked, so it was hard to entertain kids when in the house. Also we could only access saorview channels, as there was no cast option for TV. Microwave button broken. One of the timber panels in bay window is broken. Dishes left in dishwasher when we got there. Sauna panel had buttons missing. Leatherette material coming off king sleigh bed on ground floor. Cracked tile in one ensuite upstairs. Shower tubing needs replacing in middle ensuite upstairs. Vacuum cleaner turns off after 7 seconds (cordless Dyson v6) so it's no fun sweeping by hand the large property. Our group also were concerned about the waste facilities. We were advised by the owners to incinerate our paper/cardboard in the fireplace in the sitting room. None of us felt comfortable doing this. So we did separate all cardboard/paper, plastics, tins/cans/glass and then general waste. We had no option only to leave this in the garage as we couldn't see any wheelie bins in place. The above mentioned comments however cannot take away from the outstanding ambience of the house itself. The location is the best I have ever been to in Ireland. Every view from every window was STUNNING! The comments above are merely like a "snag list" when finishing a house build, in order to make the experience of staying in Rockhill View 10/10.

“This house was absolutely filthy when we arrived.”

The beds had not been changed and had sand, hair , saliva and probably other bodily fluids dried on to the sheets and pillows. We had to strip every bed and start to clean showers, kitchen cupboards,fridge, the oven etc.The cleaner reluctantly agreed to return to the house and after she and her daughter had cleaned for a further two hours the house was still well below the standard we would have expected. Glasses and bowls were chipped and none of the TVs in bedrooms worked. The owner gave the impression that he was listening but when we asked to have compensation for a day cleaning rather than enjoying our holiday he said we needed to contact your company. We provided you with photographs and my sister who was also staying with her disabled daughter also contacted you with her experience. The owner lied by telling you all issues had been resolved on day one when they clearly had not been. Despite guarantees of quality etc on your website you were unable to negotiate any compensation for us and then made the situation worse by not communicating the outcome to us until we contacted you. We will be posting comments on social media to let your potential customers know of that your guarantees are worthless. We will also be posting comments about the specific property. Your senior managers need to review all the communication, photos etc we sent you and apply themselves to getting a fair deal for us. We will also be seeking advice from Consumer Advice Service. We also asked for all our communication about our case and when you made decisions. Predictably we have received nothing. All round pathetic service

“Rockhill View is a great property for a large family gathering with plenty of room for all not to feel on top of each other, with amazing views across the bay and sunsets if you're lucky.”

The kitchen is well equipped with everything you can think of for your stay and plenty of dining space for all. Ample Parking- we had four cars and there was still plenty of space. Directions to property excellent. Check in and out absolutely painless. However we did encounter a few issues during our stay, such as a locked walk in wardrobe in the master bedroom and no alternative to hang clothes (l would expect something like this in an Airbnb but not a house rental) There were also issues with a few of the bathrooms, the downstairs family bathroom shower didn't work, we were greeted with an out of order sign in another upstairs and one had a leaking tray. In the kitchen we also discovered that the seal had gone in the main oven. With regards to cleanliness as a whole it was fine but again we experienced a few issues, such as tufts of a previous guests long hair in the shower plug hole, used tights in a shopping bag in a wardrobe, used tissues in a bedside table and kids shoes under a bed. I would like to suggest that the owners provide a welcome book with information for guests, such as how to use the sauna (which we didn't utilize due to this), where to locate switches such as underfloor heating, how to use the televisions and induction hob. It would also be very helpful to leave instructions with regards to food waste and recycling. Having said that we had a lovely week and would recommend.

“Rockhill View is a beautiful property which we would recommend to any large group, as we were.”

It was wonderful to have 7 bedrooms, all with en suite, and loads of hot water. There were one or two issues- I think that the owners should leave simplified instructions for the induction hob very prominently displayed in case anyone is not familiar with using one. Also perhaps two more saucepans of the type that can be used on an induction hob ( there were two woks there and one of our group had brought a large Le Creuset casserole so we were able to use those but ordinary saucepans can t be used on an induction hob and may even damage it) . Another slight problem was that there was not a glass dish in the microwave, though it worked. There were plenty of large dinner plates, though we could have done with more large soup plates and more dessert/cereal plates. There were plenty of mugs and cutlery and glasses. One final issue, common to all houses we have stayed in in the South of Ireland is the problem of what to do with food waste.. We put it in large bin bags, sealed them well and labelled them. Sharon the housekeeper was very nice and very helpful. Lovely comfortable beds.
