“We had a great week at Charlie’s cottage.”

Lorrha is a quiet village so was great to recharge the batteries. The owners were incredibly helpful, and went above and beyond to help us get some logs for our firepit. They recommended things to do in the local community also. The surrounding area is beautiful, especially loved the swimming area at Portumna. The back garden was perfect for our dog Pepper (even though she didn’t like the donkeys, but thankfully the donkeys just ignored her!) The house was beautiful and had everything we needed for our holiday.

“Just returned from a beautiful break in this wonderful little cottage.”

From entering the front door to turning the key it was perfect. Cleanliness was outstanding, with everything you could think off provided and for us a cozy open fire for the weather we had was the icing on the cake. The garden was totally dog proofed for our little Gizmo so he had a blast. The village itself was peaceful and quiet while the friendly welcome in the Community Shop was most enjoyable. It catered for those bits and bobs you just don’t want to go to a supermarket for. Ideally located for sightseeing, gardens and castles and beautiful walks I cannot praise this little cottage highly enough. We would definitely stay again!!

Such a comfortable house with everything you could possibly need provided. Great area for tours & lots of fantastic walks nearby. Walked the paws off poor Buster at Portumna Forest Park. Will definitely recommend Charlie’s cottage to all my friends.

“Wonderful stay in a beautiful part of Ireland.”

Lorrha has many hidden charms and is rural yet close enough to nearby towns of Portumna and Nenagh. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the cottages were clean and cosy - we especially enjoyed the fires in the dark, winter months. The donkeys also were an added bonus and gave a taste of the real Ireland. We will be back! Thank you to Roland and Pauline who made us very welcome and checked in to see that everything was to our satisfaction.

“Beautiful cottage in a wonderful village.”

You can directly see the old abbey from your bed. Very calm, no traffic, parking directly in from of the cottage. Very central located to visit Ireland. Also, Roland is really a nice and uncomplicated guy. We enjoyed our stay in Lorrha! Definitly a recommendation!

“Charlie's Cottage was brilliant and we would definitely recommend it!”

It was so comfortable and spacious. Everything was very clean and the added touches of milk and tea/coffee was much appreciated. Roland and Pauline are very friendly and close by if needed. The cottage has excellent facilities- a comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, lovely bathroom and an excellent living room area. The added neighbours over the fence were also friendly- 5 donkeys! Lorrha is a very quiet village steeped in history and definitely worth walking around. Portumna and Birr are not far away and also worth exploring.

“This Irish cottage is amazing it has everything you could possibly want in a home, comfy bed, beautiful onsuit, cosy living room, large kitchen and large enclosed back garden which my dog loved.”

.Very clean. The location is peaceful, the surroundings are beautiful. If you are looking for some serious R&R this is the place to be. The owner Roland and Pauling are very friendly and nothing is to much trouble for them (not that we had any). We couldn't recommend it enough and we will definatley be back. Maggie, Lorraine and Neeson.

LORRHA, COUNTY TIPPERARY

Portumna 5.5 miles; Galway City 50.5 miles.

The historical, pretty village of Lorrha is situated in the north of County Tipperary and is set on an ancient 6th century monastic site. Lorrha offers two pubs and a playground and is steeped in history with its famous monastery and its high crosses dating back to its founder St Ruadhan's time. Visitors to Lorrha love getting lost in time while at this lovely village, which includes an 11th century church, the Dominican Priory, a 15th century Augustinian Abbey, and The Friars Lough, famed for its legend of the monster beneath the water. Just five minutes’ drive away is the busy town of Portumna with a good selection of shops and pubs, along with Portumna Castle and Gardens. Watersports can be enjoyed at any of the stops along the Lough Derg drive, including Terryglass, Portumna, Scariff and Mountshannon, fishing is in abundance on the River Shannon and visitors also have the choice of four great golf courses close by. The larger towns of Nenagh and Birr are within 30 minutes drive, the latter being home to the famed Birr Castle and people come from all over the country to Birr Vintage Week during the summer. The famous Rock of Cashel Castle and Galway City are both only an hours’ drive away. Galway City is famed worldwide for its charming cobbled streets, fantastic shopping and nightlife, traditional Irish Music and, of course, the Salthill Promenade.
