“I loved my stay at the White House, Bridie was the perfect host, she'd laid a fire for me when I arrived and I was really touched that she stopped to say hello when she found me on the road to Clifden.”

I'm already planning a trip back.

Surrounded by dramatic scenery of the Connemara region, this classic cottage offers couples and friends panoramic views, off-road parking, and a remote setting to relax and switch off from daily life.

The cottage has retained much of its original features with high ceilings, exposed beams and timbers, whilst thoughtfully decorated for a homely feel.

Be welcomed into the open-plan living space with a well-equipped kitchen area, dining table for four guests, and two armchairs set in front of the open fire for added ambience.

There are two well-appointed double bedrooms with storage space and a shower room with a shower cubicle to freshen up after the day's adventures.

In the mornings, why not savour your cup of coffee on the front bench while admiring the breath-taking sea views?

Although in a remote setting, the popular fishing village of Roundstone is easily accessible via the causeway where you can dine at O'Dowd's Seafood Bar and Restaurant, stock up on essentials at the local convenience store, and fish along the village's scenic harbour, whilst regattas, festivals and other events take place throughout the year.

For lovers of the outdoors, you can follow in the footsteps of Monty Halls on his Great Irish Escape, which was filmed in the area, by hopping on a charter boat from the pier and experiencing deep-sea fishing.

Alternatively, Dog's Bay is a must-visit for swimming, windsurfing, and simply relaxing in the sun, or perhaps you'd prefer the historic attractions of Roundstone Bog, Connemara Heritage & History Centre, and Clifden Castle.

The area is also a popular choice for climbers with the Twelve Bens Mountain range and Connemara National Park, just a short drive away, as well as Kylemore Abbey & Victorian Walled Garden.

However you spend your holiday in Ireland, return to The White House for a peaceful retreat with your loved ones.

About the location

ROUNDSTONE, COUNTY GALWAY

Clifden 14.5 miles; Connemara National Park 25 miles; Galway 48 miles.

Roundstone, in the Connemara region of County Galway, lies on the western arm of Bertraghboy Bay. The entrance to Roundstone harbour is marked by a large stone, like an upturned bath tub, which is known as seals rock (Chloch na Ron) as seals like to clamber up onto it and bask in the sunshine. The bay itself is also often referred to as Roundstone Haven. Roundstone offers pubs, restaurants, cafés, shops and a children’s playground, plus there is a traditional Irish night in the summer and a number of festivals which take place throughout the year. Roundstone is full of historical and geographical points of interest, including the bell tower of the Franciscan Monastery, now standing in the Michael Killeen Park, and the remains of a monument to St Brendan on Inishnee, a small island in Roundstone Bay. A five-minute drive away are Gurteen and Dog's Bay beaches, plus attractions in the area include horse riding, deep sea fishing, hill walking and cycling. Just eight miles from Roundstone is the Connemara Golf Club and further afield there is great scenery to enjoy either on foot, bicycle or in the car. The lively town of Clifden has lots of interesting things to see, while the Connemara National Park is just a little further away and the city of Galway can be reached in an hour’s drive.
