Located on the magnificent Skellig Ring between Waterville and Valentia Island, on the forthcoming Wild Atlantic Way, with wild rugged coastlines, scattered islands, vast mountains and high passes, the seaside area of Ballinskelligs sits on the attractive Ballinskelligs Bay and is an Irish-speaking area with a unique history and culture. Once the land base for the monks of Skellig Michael, the surrounding area has numerous prehistoric and early Christian ruins along its shores. The area is renowned for its miles of golden beaches and turquoise waters and offers excellent swimming and watersports on the Blue Flag beach, along with boat trips to the Skelligs, walking in the Ballinskellig/Bolus Head Loop and cycling. A visit to the Skelligs Chocolate Factory is a must!
