“We booked a 4 bed property but we’re only able to use 3 as there was rather bad black mold in one bedroom.”

The bath was rusty and bath mats also covered in mold. Rug in lounge was filthy. Old packets of food in cupboards dated 2019 and 2020, and an old bottle of ketchup with mold on it, also used toothbrushes left in food cupboard. I contacted the owner immediately regarding the mold and was told it was an old property and they sent the cleaner back who naturally could only wipe the wall, not solve the issue. I contacted Sykes who were helpful to start but I have had no further contact from them ...

I contacted Sykes who were helpful to start but I have had no further contact from them despite messaging again. I was also contacted by the owner during our stay who requested I put the bins out as they are only collected every two weeks, so I have paid for a 4 bed and only 3 were useable, bath was unusable, and also had the privilege of putting the previous occupants rubbish out. Photos of all issues were provided to Sykes. Very disappointed by the standard of the property, a beautiful building which sadly has not been maintained. It being an old property is no excuse for the poor standard of cleanliness. Also disappointed with lack of contact from Sykes following initial contact. Would not recommend this property. On the plus side the location was perfect and Valentia island is well worth visiting.

About the location

KNIGHTSTOWN, COUNTY KERRY

Cahersiveen 15 miles; Kerry Airport 53 miles.

Knightstown is the main village on Valentia Island, which lies off the coast of the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry. It is accessible from the mainland by ferry from Reenard Point, or via the road bridge at Portmagee. Knightstown provides restaurants and Irish pubs as well as entertainment and local shops. It is also the departure point for a variety of sightseeing boat trips and fishing trips. Take a trip to the magnificent Skellig Islands, the site of a 6th century monastic settlement, and home to a large colony of gannets and puffins. With around 650 residents Valentia Island stands out as one of the westernmost inhabited locations in Europe, and was the site of the first permanent communications link between Europe and the United States. The Island is famed for its magnificent 'Fogher' sea cliffs, which rise majestically from the Atlantic Ocean on the northern side of the Island, and the subtropical gardens at Glanleam House, which are a unique delight for visitors of all ages.
