    “The property was jaded.”

    The owner said it hadn't been occupied for some time prior to our holiday and it hadn't been aired as the place was damp - including the beds. We had to buy hot water bottles the day after arriving to air the beds. The bedding was 'well used' and not particularly fresh. There was a lovely old fashioned fire hearth (one you could stand up in) in the kitchen that we were told shouldn't be lit but the problem was that it meant there was an open chimney that you could see the sky from and the heat ...

We had to buy hot water bottles the day after arriving to air the beds. The bedding was 'well used' and not particularly fresh. There was a lovely old fashioned fire hearth (one you could stand up in) in the kitchen that we were told shouldn't be lit but the problem was that it meant there was an open chimney that you could see the sky from and the heat got sucked up leaving the kitchen cold. The facilities in the kitchen were basic, no microwave, no dishwasher and a washing machine in the barn. The flooring was laminate except for the kitchen and bathroom which were tiled and cold so any warm air hitting them made them wet and slippy. There was a rug in the bedroom that we had to lift as it slipped underfoot. The bathroom didn't have a lot of head height meaning you had to stoop to use the shower and for the men, when you used the toilet. There wasn't a proper mixer for the shower meaning it was hot hot hot or cold cold cold. It had to be used manually rather than in the fitting otherwise you'd never get wet. The bath took forever to drain.There was wifi via an EE (might have been 3) box, it wasn't a permanent link and could be temperamental. There was no TV which we knew when booking so the aim was to use the WiFi but because it was temperamental this wasn't always possible. The beds available would allow for 5 people to stay but there was only one sofa so hard dining room seats had to be used which isn't what you want when you want to relax at the end of the day.
