The town of Ballaghaderreen lies on a primary route from Dublin to Castlebar and boasts many beautiful lakes and rivers, and a short trip will take you to beautiful Lough Gara, renowned for fishing.

Motor west to the bustling town of Castlebar and on to Westport, an oasis in the west, where you will savour the local culture and tradition.

Seek out the wonderful historical attractions at Arigna Mining Experience and the Museum of Country Life at Turlough, Castlebar.

Walk at your leisure through Lough Key Forest and Amenity Park with marina and sample the cuisine in the local restaurant.

With Knock International Airport a mere 12 miles away, this delightful cottage offers a wonderful base to enjoy the North West Ireland.

Gorteen, meaning small garden, is a delightful village in south east County Sligo. There is great Irish music to discover in Gorteen, and with strong ties to the past and tradition, Gorteen is home to the Coleman Irish Music Centre. Nearby 16th century Moygara Castle, which overlooks Lough Gara, provides a wonderful backdrop for a spot of fishing, while the area is home to a host of varying lakes for watersports as well. With many villages and towns on the doorstep, Westport just over an hour away and Galway City only a couple of hours away, Gorteen is a great touring base.
