The property

Overlooking the scenic waters of the Irish Sea, a stone's throw away from the picture-postcard village of Kilmore Quay, rests this traditional white-washed cottage, Heron Cottage.

Boasting an interior full of character and idyllically positioned to frame the picturesque coastline, Heron offers a lovely base for a romantic escape to Ireland.

Park up on your private driveway upon arrival to this lovely dwelling, making loading and unloading an easy task, and kick off your shoes as you step over the threshold and enter into the delightful open-plan living space, beautifully-appointed with a traditional décor, featuring exposed wooden beams and a warming electric fire, inviting you to curl up with your significant other on the sofa following a day of exploring.

Be charmed by the fully-equipped kitchen tucked away at the rear of the sociable space, housing all of the essential amenities required to prepare a romantic meal for two, and serve your culinary delights at the intimate dining table to share a bottle of wine as you indulge.

As the evening grows darker, step outside and soak in the tranquil setting of the terraced garden, offering far-reaching views across to the peaceful waters of the Irish Sea, and toast a glass of fizz to an unforgettable holiday under the canopy of the stars.

When sleep calls, head back indoors and prepare for bed with an invigorating rinse in the en-suite shower room before snuggling up under the covers in the sumptuous double bedroom, or venture through to the adjoining single bedroom for an intimate escape.

In the morning, kickstart your day with a steaming cup of coffee and a leisurely seat in your private courtyard, planning your itinerary for the day.

Pack up the essentials and follow the walkway from your doorstep, beautifully-lined with colourful flowers, and ascend the steps down to Kilmore Beach, where you can bask in the sun as you unwind with a seat on the sand, or dip your toes in the tranquil waters, backed by the towering sand dunes that decorate the beachfront.

After working up an appetite, take the short stroll into the centre of Kilmore Quay and indulge in a delicious meal at Kehoe's Pub & Parlour, a traditional Irish pub serving good craic alongside a refreshing pint of Guinness, or in true seaside tradition, enjoy a portion of takeaway fish and chips and a scenic walk around the elegant marina.

Get better acquainted with your surroundings and board the ferry to the Saltee Islands, a pair of uninhabited rocky islands breaking through the waves, home to a wonderful wild landscape decorated in flora, fauna and bluebells, and a fascinating selection of wildlife, including puffins, gannets and razorbills.

There's plenty to see and do on land too, with the vibrant town of Wexford in easy reach, where you can enjoy a spot of retail therapy, discover the 12th century ruins of Selskar Abbey, where the first Anglo-Irish treaty was signed, experience the fantastic live music and dance at the National Opera House, or if you time it right, catch a horse race at Wexford Racecourse.

Whisk your loved one away on a romantic getaway to Ireland with a stay at Heron Cottage.

About the location

Rosslare 12 miles; Wexford 14 miles.

Kilmore Quay is a small fishing village situated in the south east corner of County Wexford, 14 miles from Wexford town and just 12 miles from the international ferry port of Rosslare. Famous for its numerous whitewashed thatched cottages and its state-of-the art marina, Kilmore Quay is also an established angling centre with many species of fish in abundance, and the seafood festival in July is the perfect example of it! The area is ideal for a spot of diving as the seas from Hook Head to Carnsore Point have been known as "the graveyard of a thousand ships". Beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches are within easy reach of the village, with nearby Ballyteigue offering beautiful walks along some of the finest sand dunes in the south-east of the country. A day trip to the Great Saltee Island and its famous bird sanctuary is an absolute must!
