A 5 star welcome to a 5 star cottage.

What wonderful place to stay. Kathleen our host was lovely she had a welcome pack of food in the fridge and homemade bread and marmalade which was absolutely delicious. The cottage was gorgeous and spotlessly clean and lots of interesting places to visit. We hope to be back to Cartron Cottage in the near future. Thank you Kathleen

What a wonderful place to stay ,, beautiful cottage ,, very peaceful and quiet , but the welcome we received from Kathleen, the host was outstanding ,,very friendly and made us feel at home straight away ,, she even baked us some irish soda bread and had food in the fridge for us .

!! Sa gentillesse, sa disponibilité, son attention et sa prévenance sont sans commune mesure. Le cottage est exactement comme nous le souhaitions et convenait parfaitement à nos attentes. Il est bien situé (en pleine campagne) et proche de villes importantes comme Castlebar et Galway. Les sites connus sont également rapidement accessibles, tels Wesport, Achill Island, Croagh Patrick...... Un bon feu de tourbe clôturait nos soirées .... Un cottage à découvrir et que nous recommandons ....

We loved our stay in Cartron Cottage.

It's exactly as described and is a lovely place to stay. Whilst it is nice and quiet, it is also less than a mile from the N84 making it easy to get to Castlebar, Ballinrobe, Westport and other towns in the West of Ireland. The owner, Kathleen. welcomed us at the cottage and was very quick in replying to any enquiries we had. I will book Cartron Cottage again if it's available when I am next in Mayo.

A remarkable cottage with a warm and welcoming host.

We had homemade bread and marmalade on arrival along with a bottle of wine! The cottage itself has a warming fire at it's heart and amazing arrangement of objet d'art and collectables on the shelves, bookcases and tables. It is great location for drives along the Wild Atlantic Way and there is lots to do in Westport with traditional Irish music every night.

Beautiful cottage in a quiet rural area.

Lovely for walking and cycling. Balintubber Abbey nearby and the Museum of Country Life well worth a visit. Kathleen is a wonderful hostess, full of information about local eateries and amenities ( she also left a very welcome food pack!). The cottage is charming with many of the original features still to be seen. I would strongly recommend a holiday here.

Absolutely lovely little cottage, loads of character and history, we really enjoyed our stay!

We'll definitely be coming back. Kathleen was the most amazing host and made us feel really welcome, epecally Emma our 3 year old she loved it! Made many lovely memories on our stay here! Loads to see and do in the area, and beautiful scenery!

What an amazing host and cottage! Kathleen is such a lovely lady and goes above and beyond to ensure everything you could possibly need is there! A super cosy, clean and fully equipped cottage and a great location! Me and my husband cannot recommend Cartron Cottage highly enough! Kathleen is a great host, a lovely, lovely woman.

The cottage was clean, very warm and stocked with everything you need for a break away. Corleys Bar by the Abbey was great for a pint of the ‘black stuff’ and the food was exceptional. Would definitely book the cottage again if heading for Co Mayo.

The cottage is pristine and very cosy. The surrounding area is great for a peaceful walk and a safe cycle. A great place to retire to of an evening.

A great fire on we had a chat.Home made bread ..we was surprised with rashers ..sausages white pudding for the tomorrows breakfast in the fridge..milk and tea bags and coffee..ah a great stay and a lovely area.Thanks again Steve and Ruth .

Kathleen ist ein liebenswerter Mensch und hat uns sehr liebevoll und herzlich empfangen. Das Cottage ist liebevoll bis ins kleinste Detail eingerichtet. Es fehlte an Nichts. Es war sehr sauber und gemütlich. Von uns 5 Sterne.

Kathleen was waiting at the cottage for us and gave us a great welcome and had a really good fire on for us.

Kathleen gave us a quick talk about the history of the cottage and how to work things in the kitchen and surprised us with fresh homemade bread and jam but also had lots in the fridge for breakfast. All rooms were clean and tidy well equipped and up to date. The cottage was ideally located in peaceful surroundings and in a great position for touring county's Mayo, Silgo and Galway with Westport only 15 minutes drive away. We would highly recommend this cottage for anyone looking a good holiday. Many thanks Kathleen for a great time. William and Margaret.

We had an amazing holiday in Cartron cottage.

From our arrival to our departure our hostess Kathleen was wonderful, she was warm kind generous and friendly and her home made bread and whisky marmalade were fantastic. The cottage was very well equipped much more like a home than a holiday cottage. Everything was sparkling clean and comfortable and reflects the love that she has for her cottage. The surrounding area is beautiful and there are so many things to see and do. Thank you Kathleen

Thank you Kathleen. The cottage sparkles, it is modernised lovingly and very comfortably yet you get a vivid sense of part of its I60 years of history. The cottage is a super base from which to tour the beautiful coastline and lakes of Mayo as well as Galway and Connemara.

Cartron Cottage has been sympathetically modernised without losing any of its charm.

It is in a lovely peaceful setting but within easy reach of Castlebar and Westport. Kathleen the owner is an exceptionally thoughtful, warm and friendly host. My daughter, grandson and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the cottage and would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone.

Cartren Cottage is a bit like a time capsule. It will suit anyone who would like the opportunity to live in a building that in many ways reflects the lives of the people that called it home more than a century ago whilst also providing 21st century facilities.

This property is five star plus all the way!

We have nothing negative whatsoever to say about it. It is excellently located to explore everything Co.Mayo has to offer. The cottage is comfortable, well equipped and beautifully peaceful. It is immaculately neat and clean and is a credit to the owner, Kathleen who is the most welcoming, kind and generous host. Nothing is too much trouble for her and she is more than happy to recommend places to visit and eat and is a mind of useful information. When we arrived at the cottage provisions of bacon, sausage, eggs, milk and orange juice had all been provided by Kathleen and she had also left her homemade soda bread and whisky marmalade, both of which were delicious! All in all our stay in this wonderful little cottage was without a doubt the tonic we needed and we were sad to say goodbye. We will definitely visit again and are planning our next stay already. Thank you so much for everything Kathleen.

The cottage was just what we expected.

It was in idyllic County setting with good view of the mountains in the distance. Our host Kathleen was very welcoming on arrival at catron cottage, the cottage was very well equipped and spotlessly clean. The home made bread and marmalade delicious also the other provisions she provided were over and above what other cottages we stayed at. Kathleen is the perfect host very friendly couldn't do enough for us. One day we will be back to catron cottage it was so lovely and peaceful.

The combination of Kathleen's warm hospitality, the cottage's comfort and cleanliness, and the incredible surroundings make it an exceptional choice. Carton Cottage was everything we hoped it would be!

We felt like we arrived home the moment we walked through the door. Every detail has been carefully thought out…down to the delicious homemade goodies… brown bread and whiskey orange marmalade! Kathleen was the icing on the cake. She was so warm and welcoming and has created the absolute perfect Irish cottage getaway. We can’t wait to return!

Der Aufenthalt in diesem kleinen, sehr liebevoll eingerichteten Cottage war sehr angenehm. Wir würden von unserer Gastgeberin sehr herzlich empfangen, mit selbstgebackenen Brot und selbstgemachter Marmelade. Alles war sehr liebevoll hergerichtet und wir würden mit einem sehr umfassenden Comfort überrascht. Kathleen Herzlichkeit und die netten Gespräche mit ihr waren wirklich außergewöhnlich. Ein Aufenthalt ist nur zu empfehlen! Wir kommen gerne wieder.

We have had a wonderful holiday at this delightful cottage.

It was our first time in Ireland and can’t wait to go back! The cottage was spotlessly clean and had everything and more to make our stay comfortable! The wood burner was great and the bed and linen were luxurious! Kathleen has been the perfect host and has been extremely helpful, informative and generous! The cottage is very pretty in a beautiful tranquil landscape.

We found it to be very clean and tidy with excellent provisions: the owner had even warmly welcomed leaving out delicious home-made Irish bread&whisky jam, some eggs, coffee, milk which was extremely kind. There are some stunning local attractions within easy reach e.g. Moore House, Ballintober Abbey, Westport house and Craig Patrick & coast (iconic mountain) (a little further but not too far). Very quite roads in Spring. Really peaceful.

Kathleen isa very accommodating, genuine, welcoming and warm host.

The property is absolutely beautiful. The cottage is so quaint and cosy, the atmosphere is so peaceful and the location is perfect. Kathleen really does go above and beyond to make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience for guests and she is very attentive to detail. The cottage is kept in such a well-maintained condition and was very tidy upon arrival. Everything you need is on the property, it is very well facilitated for a break away. I highly recommend Kathleen's property for a trip away; you deserve all of your success with the cottage Kathleen!

Cartron Cottage far exceeded our expectations.

The cottage is absolutely beautiful, full of real Irish character and so cosy. It is set in a wonderful, peaceful location with the summit of Croagh Patrick visible on a clear day. There was everything in the cottage that you could possibly want and more. Kathleen was there to greet us with such a warm welcome that we immediately felt at home. We were greeted with a lovely fire, and in the kitchen Kathleen had left a delicious homemade loaf and whisky marmalade, both of which we thoroughly enjoyed. She had also left everything for a really tasty breakfast. Kathleen is a lovely lady, so friendly and kindhearted. We really enjoyed our chats and feel like friends now. Our stay at Cartron Cottage was quite simply everything we’d dreamed of and we hope to return again.

The cottage is idyllic and lovely.

It’s a wonderful place in which one can feel right at home. Kathleen is an excellent hostess who really goes out of her way to make sure your stay is safe, comfortable, and enjoyable. The house is fully stocked with all the linens, kitchenware, etc., that one needs. We were greeted with open arms and Kathleen checked on us several times. The cottage is close to Castlebar and Westport, but in a rural, quiet area. The nearby Ballintuber Abbey is a beautiful historic landmark that is a must-see. We’ve stayed in many holiday cottages in Ireland and this was one of the best!

Our normal holidaying is in rented accommodation and this was one of the best and most comprehensively prepared cottages we have ever used.

Bread in the kitchen and milk in the fridge and Kathleen was the epitome of a gracious host.

If there was a 10 star rating we would certainly give it to this beautiful cottage.

Kathleen was at the cottage when we arrived and by the warmth of her greeting we felt really at home. There was also a lovely roaring fire to greet us too. We were so impressed with the cottage it was scrupulously clean and the beds were really comfortable. We were treated to Kathleen's home made wheaten bread and whiskey marmalade we were totally spoiled. She also left provisions for a hearty breakfast. In the next field we're three inquisitive alpacas who were so friendly. The situation of the cottage is perfect for sightseeing and is ideal for visiting Castlebar, Westport, Achill and Newport. We highly recommend this beautiful cottage and will definitely be visiting again.

We've stayed in a lot of cottages but this was on another level. Kathleen was the best host we have encountered. Very welcoming and helpful. She embodied the 'cead mìle fàilte'. The house was clean to a standard that beats most 5 star hotels. Great location as well. I couldn't recommend this enough. We'll be back for sure

Our family are just back from a wonderful relaxing time in Cartron Cottage.

We were welcomed with open arms by our lovely host Kathleen. The cottage itself was inviting, warm, spotlessly clean and full of charm. It’s kitchen was stocked with all the essentials , along with homemade treats courtesy of Kathleen herself. The cottage location is ideal for exploring the countryside, there’s so much to see and do. It also made for peaceful evenings sitting outside and a great nights sleep. It was like a home away from home, and Kathleen made us all feel like old friends. It was everything we could have asked for and more, we would highly recommend a stay and will be back again.

We have just spent the most idyllic week in Kathleen's cottage, this place is the epitome of an old style Irish cottage.

All the charm of an old Irish cottage together with the comfort of modern day living. Kathleen herself is without doubt the nicest host I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I cannot recommend Cartron Cottage enough, the only downside is of my own doing insofar as I didn't book a longer stay. I will without doubt be making a repeat booking here... Absolute heaven. Kathleen is a wonderful lady who takes incredible pride in making her guests feel most welcome. I feel like a friend now.
