Minnie's Cottage, Killeavy

Wonderful, cosy, well-furnished cottage and the perfect stay for our Christmas holiday.

The trip was made even better by the festive touches Joan & John had made for us: from the Christmas cushions, bedding and even the decorated tree they added especially. We were also very appreciative of the festive treats they left for us, too. They really did go the extra mile to make our stay one to remember. Would highly recommend staying here!

Great property, John was a fantastic host, he went above and beyond, really nice guy, lovely stay.

5 stars

The cottage had everything you need for a stay with family.

We appreciated the complimentary welcome package. Would like to come back again.

We had a lovely stay, the cottage is beautiful, clean and well stocked for us to cook in for 4 people.

The welcome pack was great after a long journey. Owners were helpful before our stay and during. We loved the book that told us about the cottages history. Beautiful views of the surrounding Mournes.

Had a lovely relaxing week in this great cottage.

Generous starter pack of essentials. Many Thanks

Minnies Cottage is a beautiful little haven in the middle of farmland and very close to Killeavy Castle.

Easy walk to a nice little pub called Johnny Murphys and a small grocery store. There are many grocery stores that you can drive to. The hosts provided us with a few essentials to begin our stay. The cottage itself is beautiful and clean and there is lots of room, there are 3 couches which is nice if you need to have a bit of a relax. The owners take great pride in this property, it is well built, very inviting and warm and the hosts are also.

The hedge needs cutting back a lot to allow some light into the cottage.

What should be a bright and airy living room is actually quite gloomy, despite the three windows. Also, you should mention on the listing just how busy that lane is and that tractors are back and forth from first light until it's too dark to work. I'd also invest in mattress toppers as the beds have no give. Maybe treat the place to a new frying pan. The friendly little cat is a treasure.

A really comfortable and cosy place to stay.

We really enjoyed the cottage and would recommend to anyone visiting this part of the country.

A fantastic property in a beautiful location.

I cannot recommend this property enough, it was a 5 star stay. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure we had a fantastic trip, with messaging prior to the visit and checking on us during our stay. The house was immaculate and absolutely spotless, and had all the facilities and equipment needed. If you are looking for a remote stay with country walks, stunning views and local places to visit and eat, then Minnie’s Cottage is the one for you.

Beautifully and tastefully renovated cottage.

Well equipped for a self catering stay. The hosts have provided excellent instructions to make the stay comfortable and easy. John and Joan were kind and gracious checking in to see if we had an extra needs. Wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommend for a taste of Ireland .

The cottage was exceptionally clean, cosy and comfortable with stunning views (the photos don’t do it justice).

It had everything we needed. We had a warm welcome from John and were grateful for the milk, bread, tea and coffee. We visited with our two young children. There is plenty to do in the area - Gosford Forest Park and Slieve Gullion Forest Park were highlights (which the host recommended). Thank you for such a wonderful holiday - we will visit again and recommend to others!

Loved the cottage especially the backyard views.

The hosts were very thoughtful to have some pantry essentials waiting for us in the kitchen. We appreciate the hospitality. Road noise may be an issue for light sleepers. Minor things that we think will enhance guests experience would be to install towel bars/hooks and adding 2-3” memory foam mattress toppers on all the beds. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

A wonderful holiday cottage in a gorgeous location.

Thanks to Joan & John for a warm welcome & stay at Minnie’s Cottage.

Excellent accommodation - owners welcomed us and were available if needed- no problems.

Quiet and peaceful area not too far from Newry station so easy to get to Dublin

We really enjoyed our stay at Minnie's cottage.

It was comfortable & homely as well as having everything we needed. After a full day out we enjoyed coming back to the cottage to relax for the evening. The owners were very friendly & on hand if we needed anything. We would definitely come back again.

A very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a lovely location.

Everything was very comfortable it was great to have two bathrooms!

We really appreciated the generous welcome pack, with bread milk tea and coffee. Much appreciated.

Beautiful setting in a comfortable and welcoming cottage.

Amazing hosts! Looking forward to a return visit.

A beautiful cottage with an unusually large living room with doiors that opened to the garden.

Very comfortable furniture and plenty of it too. A very well sticked kitchen with an excellent choice of dishes snd utensils. 2 very good showers with loads of pressure and loads of hot water. For myself looking out of each window to trees was wonderful.

We absolutely loved our stay at Minnie's Cottage.

It was clean, spacious, comfortable and had everything you may need, and the hosts are so lovely! The location is fantastic, with stunning views and easy access to the motorway for traveling and exploring the country. Highly recommend staying here.

Really enjoyed our second stay at Minnie's Cottage.

Very comfortable and well equipped, with a generous welcome pack on arrival. Ideal location for exploring this beautiful area of Northern Ireland.

Minnie’s Cottage was fantastic, little touches make it feel like a home away from home, and John the owner, was lovely and helpful.

My brother and I were travelling together so it was nice to have our own bathrooms and seperate spaces. The location is really handy and central being about halfway between Dublin and Belfast. The cottage is located in the Ring of Gullion which means you don’t have to go far to see some incredible sites and absolutely stunning hikes! We had a great stay and highly recommend.

Amazing I’ll be staying here again.

Perfect holiday cottage.

We stayed at Minnie’s Cottage for Christmas as it was a perfect location between family homes.

Waking up in the dark on Christmas morning and spotting Killeavy Castle illuminated through the window was like something out of a fairytale. The cottage was super cosy and warm, spotless. The hosts had thought of everything to make our stay magical and our son was delighted to see all the Christmas decorations. We will definitely return!

Sorry for the late feedback, it is certainly not reflective of how much I enjoyed my stay.

First of all the hosts make you feel very comfortable, a very thoughtful gift pack of essentials in place when you arrive. Also enough contact to be of assistance but certainly not encroaching on our stay. A lovely location, nice walks close by and a very welcoming village. I would have no issue to highly recommend a stay and will be back myself.

We do a lot of self catering.

So often, things aren't as described but here everything is as pictured & everything works. First impression - immaculately clean, second impression is of a very high quality renovation producing a marvellous holiday environment. The location is rural, you'll need a car. It's possible to walk into Meigh for pub, shop & pharmacy, but the lanes are narrow & you need to step right out of the way - carry a torch if in the evening. If back in this area we would definitely return. Thanks to John & Joan for courtesy & kindness, available if needed, communicative but not intrusive. And thanks for the welcome pack - not everyone does this.

We had a 13 night holiday in May and were delighted with the standard of everything about Minnie's cottage, the lovely location and the welcome received by the owners.

There is so much to do and see in this area to suit all tastes and we would like to return.

The property was excellent clean and comfortable with everything you needed couldn't ask for any more would highly recommend the cottage set in a beautiful place in ireland Thanks Derek and freda

We returned to Minnie's Cottage after our stay last year as we cannot praise it enough in all aspects.

Communication being important was spot on. Situated in beautiful countryside all around. The cottage being fully equipped.

We had a lovely time at the cottage, the place was very clean and comfortable and the owners were extremely helpful.

We would come back again

We had a lovely time at Minnie's cottage.

Clean and comfortable, super comfy beds. Owners friendly and helpful. Good location, lovely views. Can recommend.

Minnie's Cottage is a beautiful place to stay, very clean and comfortable with all facilities you could ever need.

It is also situated in a lovely location, and not too far away from the nearest shop, or town. Lots of sites to explore in the local vicinity. Would highly recommend this property if you are looking for a home from home, to relax and enjoy yourself.

Beautiful property.

Perfect location. Great facilities including garden. Lovely touch welcoming us with milk, bread and a few other essentials. Will definitely stay again and recommend.

A wonderful week in Minnies Cottage situated at the foot of Sleive Gullion by the village of Meigh in South Armagh.

Perfect for my son and I visiting family and friends in this beautiful countryside. The cottage has every amenity in a completely modernised interior and owners John and Joan live nearby and couldn't be more helpful.

We would like to thank John and Joan for their hospitality.

A food starter pack was left for us and they gave us a drinks voucher for the Flagstaff Restaurant for being their first customers of the year. We are four sisters in our late 60s who previously visited Minnie’s Cottage in the early 1960’s with our parents. The cottage had neither electricity or running water. To visit the cottage following its full renovation was memorable to us and one we will never forget. As children we also played and visited Miss Bell’s castle now known as Killeavy Castle. Joan and John contacted the Boyle owners and arranged for us a visit to view the new renovated Castle. Again a most memorable time for us. We would highly recommend a stay at Minnie’s cottage set in the beautiful grounds of Killeavy Estate.

This stay surpassed all our expectations Friendly caring and helpful owners Very ideally situated.

My wife and I stayed at Minnie's cottage over Christmas and New Year 2021/22, We got there on a dark cold evening after a 12 hour journey and we were delighted that the owners had a fully decorated christmas tree set up and a stove fire with logs and coal provided ready to go, along with a supplies starter pack in the fridge, really appreciated.

The cottage has been totally refurbished recently and has a modern kitchen with every utensil and appliance a family would need. 2 large bedrooms with an ensuite and a family bathroom. There is parking for 2 cars comfortably and gated entrances to keep small children from wandering. The cottage is first class with a location to match with lots of country walks and history on your door step, Within close walking distance are Killeavey Old Churches, St Monnina's Well, Slieve Gullion Forest Park and numerous neolithic tombs and monuments. The views from the cottage are fantastic with the majestic Slieve Gullion mountain directly behind you and Camlough Lake & Mountain to the north east, Cooley Mountains to the south east with the Mountains of Mourne off in the far east distance. The owners are nearby if needed but never intrusive. All in all I cannot reccomend it highly enough. Thanks to John & Family. Regards Fergal & Nicola Reavey

Absolutely fabulous time at Minnie's Cottage.

Brilliant position for exploring South Armagh and the stunning Mourne coast and Mountains. The Cottage was very comfortable, and suited 4 adults very well. John and Joan had left us a really thoughtful welcome pack, and they were very helpful in telling us about the local area, and the history of the cottage. Would definitely recommend this wee gem.

Fantastic cottage, hosts and surroundings.

Beautiful, newly renovated and very well equipped. We stayed quite a while and it was too short.

Great cottage, very well equipped very good location,Host were really friendly and very accommodating, would definitely return and recommend this cottage to others

The cottage was delightful and met our needs very well.

We also received a warm welcome from John and Joan, for whom nothing was too much trouble. The beautiful countryside around this area was a revelation to us and we hope to visit Minnie's cottage again in the not too distant future.

Lovely cottage in a great location.

We, a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 teenagers) spent 2/52 at Minnie's cottage in August 2020, the cottage itself was really comfortable, clean and warm. The owners live next door and were on hand for any help / advice with either the cottage / local area. Lovely walks from the doorstep though the nearby forest park, and over Slieve Gullion which gives you fantastic views of the area. Cottage is in a quiet rural location, however good local shops, including a Eurospar which had a great range of locally produced ready meals were only about 3 miles away. Further afield big supermarkets and good shopping in Newry - less than 15minutes away. We had a really nice meal in the local pub (Johnny Murphy's) which is a really pleasant mile or so walk from the cottage. With regards the location, it's fantastic - mountain biking, and coastal / mountain walks a short drive away - the ones around Carlingford Lough were stunning. Belfast about an hour away, where I'd recommend a city tour, the Crumlin Road Gaol, the Titanic Museum, and a walk around Stormont Park. The Giants Causeway and the North Antrim coast are a bit further away, approx an hour and a half but we did both easily in a single day. We didn't cross the border to explore the Republic of Ireland (didn't need to, had so much to do anyway) but had we wanted to then Dublin is achievable as a day trip - either by road or rail from Newry. In summary, fantastic cottage in a great location - would recommend.

Absolutely amazing place, if anything, the photos and listing did an injustice to the beauty and character of the house.

The house is prestine clean with a great quality modern finish and attention to detail. The host family were lovely, genuine and available on the phone if we had any questions. The area is stunning and the mountainous backdrop is like a picture. Great value for money, maybe one of the best in my experience.

Most amazing place ive stayed, I visit Ireland regularly around Newry Mourne and in the passed I was so remote it was just to far from anything, this property has best of both worlds it’s rural, peaceful exceptional views of the mountains, castle, great walks and also close enough to go to town for anything you needed, very cosy, clean, with amazing hosts John & Joan I will defiantly be going back to this property, thank you again for an amazing property, has everything you would need and more, much bigger and better than the pictures also

The beautiful quaint “Minnie’s cottage”, situated in the scenic ring of Gullion is not only comfortable and warm but is also equipped to the highest of standards.

The hosts were exceptional from start to end; easy to contact, hospitable in nature and kind and respectful in their gestures. They provided us with lots of little added extras to make our festive stay very memorable. We would highly recommend this listing..

We received a warm welcome with a quick run through of the facilities in the house.

It was apparently an old single storey cottage extended, seamlessly, this year, so everything was new and up to date. It was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The garden is comfortable for sitting and eating outside The owners live close by and were available if necessary, which is always reassuring.

John and his family very nice and helpful.

Always answered my phone calls. Leaving some coffee tea and food items was a nice touch thank you

Perfect cottage, John has obviously put a lot of thought into providing everything needed for his guests, everything provided was to a very high standard, the ‘welcome pack ‘ of tea coffee milk, bread and even cake was a thoughtful touch.

Lovely location for walks and close enough to the village for shopping. Would definitely return.

Gorgeous cottage, lovely friendly and thoughtful owners who live next door.

Recently refurbished with everything new and to a very high standard. Stunning views. Comfortable beds. Everything you could think of is provided. Highly recommend this cottage and will be returning. Brilliant location. There is nothing negative about this cottage at all.
