Why book a cottage in County Wicklow?

Welcome to the place where Dubliners love to escape to. County Wicklow, located on the country’s east coast, is a wild expanse of mountains, countryside, beaches and historic sites. No wonder the county's called the 'Garden of Ireland'.

Discover the beautiful Vale of Avoca, used as the location for the TV series Ballykissangel. Look out for Fitzgerald's Pub and find a souvenir at the celebrated Avoca Stores at The Mill, showcasing all kinds of goodies, from fashion to food.

Film buffs are in for a treat - Braveheart, Excalibur and Michael Collins were all filmed in the county and there are special drives you can take visiting the various filming locations. When it comes to gardens, County Wicklow pulls out all the stops, with a list of magnificent estates including the exquisite Powerscourt, famous for its long, beech-lined drive and striking terraces. The estate also includes the Glensoulan Valley and Powerscourt Waterfall, the highest waterfall in Ireland.

If you're into walking, the Wicklow Way starts in Dublin then winds its way south for 130km. It's a lovely way to explore the region and you are treated to some amazing scenery. Other outdoor pursuits you can enjoy in the area include cycling, angling, riding and golf.

One of Ireland's most spectacular and sacred valleys is here too, known as Glendalough - 'the valley of two lakes'. Admire the wonders of this glacial gorge, the rare oak forest and the extraordinary Monastic Site with Round Tower. Spend a day by the sea at Bray, boasting a Blue Flag beach and home to the National Sea Life Centre - great for a rainy day. Visit the town of Arklow, renowned for boat building and sea fishing, or head to Newtownmountkennedy, the village with the longest name.
