Rocklea Seaside Cottage

We were very happy with the property.

It was comfortable and the views were stunning. It was well situated as we wanted to walk in the Mourne mountains as well as explore the coastline. The property is close to Newcastle ( but not easily walkable to as a busy main road) which was very useful for food shopping/cafes as well as having a lovely long stretch of beach and dunes The property owners were very helpful and proactive - even on a bank holiday weekend. We were grateful for their immediate responses and resolving the issue

Had a lovely time at the cottage.

Space and facilities good. Views were lovely. Road a little noisy and difficult to get onto from drive, we found it safer to get someone to cross the road and guide the driver out from the opposite drive then back into it to collect the passenger as you can see safely both ways from that side. Also it would have been nice to of had a line to hang washing outside on. The single bed downstairs was a little uncomfortable and I ended up sleeping the wrong way round on it.

The cottage is situated right by the sea giving terrific views across the bay.

You can even see the Isle of Man when it’s clear. We were lucky enough to see dolphins and seals. The cottage itself has a great character and is very comfortable. It’s a good base for exploring the Mourne Mountains, Newcastle and the local area. Access is by a busy road, which is tricky, but safe if you follow the owner’s advice.

The views over the sea were great and we watched seals fishing and enjoying themselves. The cottage was comfortable and had everything we needed.

Beautiful house.

View was amazing from every room. All mod cons like home from home. Owner Mary was brilliant with communication. Little touches like welcome basket so thoughtful. House is so near town. Newcastle is a lovely spot. Plenty to do in town, great shops and restaurants lovely town for old and young alike. Beaches are beautiful.

A stunning location right on the water.

You won't want to leave the back garden.

Very comfortable, but as I am tall (over 6 foot), I found the door to the main bedroom low, not a problem, just something to be aware of.

Wished I had taken a larger pair of binoculars or a spotting scope as the sea view is fantastic, saw seals, dolphins, many sea birds and on the last day a red squirrel. The welcome pack was brilliant, with a bread mix, local beer, crisps, orange juice and tea and coffee included. The cottage has everything included to make a relaxing holiday. The information book has some great suggestions of places to go and eat. Can definitely recommend Villa Vinci. Great communications from Mary, the owner, via WhatsApp.

The beauty of the location cannot be described accurately. The owner was fantastic!

This was our 2nd visit to Rocklea.

It didn't disappoint. It was very comfortable and well equipped and in the perfect location for visiting areas we didn't manage to see last time. There is just so much to see in the area. The views from the windows are amazing. It was also good to meet Mary and Ian who happened to be visiting at the same time.

The Rocklea Seaside Cottage was perfect for us!

The cottage was like a home from home but much better. The furnishings were excellent with super comfy sofas and beds; the kitchen was fully equipped and had a washing machine and dryer in the garage. We wanted for nothing! Then the view out to sea and the garden! Wow! Waking up to a beautiful sunrise just set the tone for the day, with the red sky at sunset ended a perfect day! The host, Mary, was so welcoming and helpful, and was available and responded to any queries almost immediately. The welcome basket was a lovely surprise along with the spotless level of cleanliness too! The photos really do not do it justice. Mary also advised on where to visit and there is so much to see and do around this area of outstanding beauty, we wish we had been there for longer than a week! All in all BOOK THIS COTTAGE! You will absolutely love it here! It was also fantastic value for money. Our only regret is not staying longer!

What a lovely property near to the beautiful Mourne Mountains and area of outstanding natural beauty.

We enjoyed amazing hiking, beachcombing, and picturesque villages nearby. Newcastle has plenty of dining and entertainment options. The Rocklea Sea Cottage is comfortable and set right on a dramatic coastal ledge. We enjoyed a full day of wave watching from the large bow window. Everything was tidy and uncluttered, just right. Our host provided a gift basket of local treats. I highly recommend this cottage to all wanderers!

We had a very comfortable stay at Rocklea Cottage - the location right on the sea was lovely, it was very relaxing just chilling out and watching the cormorants flying back and forth.

The cottage is ideally situated for exploring The Mournes and south County Down - Carlingford Lough and Strangford Lough are also within easy reach, and Belfast is only around an hour away. Communication with the owner was first class, and we were made to feel very welcome. Facilities in the cottage itself are excellent.

The views are everything at this property.

The cottage itself is fine. Couple of things though. Strange smell in the downstairs twin single bed room also no idea why the heating came on in the early hours of the morning. Wasn't sure how to change the time it came on and off so never touched it. Woke up at 2.. 3 in the morning sweating most days. We did have one day of really bad weather which coursed a bit of a mud slide at the front of the cottage which made it very muddy around that area. Also as others have said getting out onto the main road with car can be a bit challenging. Had my daughter stand on other side of road to help me get out. Overall though the positives outweigh the negatives. You won't regret having a holiday at this cottage.

We had a wonderful week in Rocklea Seaside Cottage.

The location overlooking the sea is just beautiful. Sunrise is wonderful to watch. The house is very comfortable with a high standard of furnishings and is well maintained. The kitchen is well equipped to be able to self cater at home. Mary was a helpful and informative host and was very easy to maintain contact with, and is very thoughtful about her guests. I would love to return to the house and look forward to our next visit.

It is a great place to stay with great views of the sea. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. The location is perfect for exploring the local mountains and the wonderful Newcastle. Pulling out onto the road is best done with someone acting as lookout.

We had a wonderful stay at this charming cottage.

The highlight was without a doubt the incredible sea view from the back garden – the perfect spot for morning coffee or watching the seals, porpoises and birds play in the ocean. The cottage itself was cozy, well-kept, and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. Peaceful, private, and beautifully located – we left feeling refreshed and would happily return.

With the exception of the upstairs bedroom, of which we had been made aware, the cottage itself was ideal for my mother who has mobility problems. Mary was very responsive to any queries we had, both before and during our stay.

We had a fabulous week at Rocklea.

The weather was mixed but whatever the weather, the views were beautiful. The new sofas in the living room were very comfortable and we really appreciated the welcome box of supplies on arrival. The cottage had character and charm and was an excellent base for visiting the Mournes, Strangford Lough, and Belfast. There are lots of good eateries in the town of Newcastle and some beautiful walks not too far away including the Silent Valley Reservoir, Tollymore Forest Park and Castlewellan Park.

What a wonderful stay at Rocklea.

The setting is amazing with views across the sea, which we enjoyed from both inside and out in the garden. The lounge is large and comfy, as are the three bedrooms. The house is very convenient to the lovely town of Newcastle. This is definitely not a property for anyone with mobility issues and great care is needed when driving out onto the main road. We absolutely loved our stay at Rocklea. Would love to return!

We’ve just returned from the most wonderful stay at this holiday cottage in Northern Ireland, and to be honest, we almost don’t want to write a review because it’s such a hidden gem!

But here goes. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the incredibly friendly host, who made us feel right at home. It’s clear they take great pride in their property, and it’s reflected in every detail. The cottage itself is warm, cosy, and beautifully decorated, with just the right balance of modern comfort and rustic charm. The living room, with its inviting fireplace, was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. And the view—wow. Waking up to the sound of the sea and watching the waves roll in from the windows was absolutely magical. We spent hours just gazing out over the water, feeling totally at peace. We almost want to keep this little place to ourselves, but we know it deserves to be shared. So, if you're lucky enough to book it, enjoy it as much as we did!

It's really homely and welcoming, and we enjoyed a wonderful and very special week there. The sea views are stunning, the best we've ever had from a holiday cottage, and it was magical to watch the sunrise over the bay. We could easily have stayed in all day just looking at the view. However, we tore ourselves away as Rocklea is ideally located for exploring this beautiful area, and we very much enjoyed the Mournes, Tollymore, Murlough, Silent Valley and Castlewellan Country Park. Also, the coastal path from Bloody Bridge has fabulous views out to sea. The cottage is well equipped, cosy and very comfortable and we would highly recommend it. We couldn't have asked for more. This is a supurb sea view cottage and we had a magical stay here!

The sea is ever-present, from early morning sunrise over the sea, to nature spotting - all manner of sea birds and even dolphins - to a view of the Isle of Man on a clear day. The area is simply gorgeous with the Mourne mountains, a Forest Park, National Trust blue flag beach and nature reserve and a lovley seaside town. We hope to return! There has been a lot of care to provide everything a visitor could need in a home away from home. Photos of the owners as children visiting are a touching addition. Thank you for an excellent stay!

Rocklea cottage was fantastic- perfect location, well equipped and very homely.

The view is just stunning and we saw some lots of wildlife including seals. The cottage owner was very helpful and responsive when needed. My family and I really hope to make a return visit.

The cottage is in a delightful location with the main rooms all overlooking the lovely sunny garden which is framed (but not heavily shaded) by two mature maritime pines and slopes down to the steep rocky sea shore.

The cottage is lovely, very comfortable and fully equipped with everything one could need. The large kitchen overlooks the picture book garden and seascape. A really pleasant backdrop for meals at the kitchen table. At night the distant lighthouse at St John's Point sweeps its friendly beam across the sea. Idyllic!

This is a lovely house and the setting and views are superb.

The facilities were everything we could wish for. It is shown as suitable for up to 6 guests, and is ideal for three with the bedrooms on the ground floor. The staircase to the first floor (beds for three more) would be tricky for some people, but the view from there is breathtaking.

Fantastic place to stay!

The views from nearly every room out to the sea were breathtaking, the kitchen was comfortable and well-equipped, and the proximity to town was convenient. Pulling onto the road was slightly blind and a little tricky, but we didn’t have any issues. Additionally, one bathroom was difficult for our group, but we knew to expect that from the listing. It was such an enjoyable and beautiful cottage that was clean and bright.

The cottage was exactly as described online, indeed in real life it exceeded our expectations.

The Welcome Pack is a nice gesture. The location right on the water's edge, with full views of Dundrum Bay and St John's lighthouse flashing in the distance, is absolutely fabulous. The cottage is fully equipped for all needs and wants, and is most comfortable for relaxing and sleeping. I really can't recommend it highly enough. The full five stars in my book!

This has been one of the best places we have stayed.

The location is amazing and, for us, the property was like a home. We felt settled within minutes of arriving. Everything was where we would have expected it to be and nothing was missing.

Whatever the weather, the view over the sea is stunning. The cottage is warm and comfortable to just sit and relax, but there are many places of interest to visit within a short travelling distance. An absolutely beautiful stay in a charming cottage.

A huge thanks to the owner for the welcome package and her care in general towards us. The cottage is set against the backdrop of the open sea,beautiful sunrises and amazing wildlife. Highly recommended stay.

Some areas of the cottage were dusty and in one bedroom we found some ones under pants and socks in a drawer.

A wonderful seaside cottage offering excellent facilities with a helpful and accommodating host.

Spectacular views but access to the sea is not really possible from the property as the coastline at this point is steep and rocky.

The owner was there to greet us and the Welcome box was magnificent.

She did research on local music events which were perfect!
