“Brack Cottage was so very comfortable and so well equipped.”

The surroundings were beautiful, the sheep were entertaining, the welcome basket was definitely welcome and info about Oughterard was very useful. The surroundings were beautiful, the sheep were entertaining, the welcome basket was definitely welcome and info about Oughterard was very useful. Having followed the Irish band the Saw Doctors for decades, we came to the area on a self guided pilgrimage to some of the places mentioned in some of their songs and Brack Cottage was wonderfully placed for that. We drove through the “twisting, turning, winding roads of Galway and Mayo” From Shannon to Claregalway, from Galway to Joyce Country, to Tuam and the N17, to Roonagh, Clew Bay, Clare Island and Croagh Patrick we saw places we had sung about, we experienced such wonderfully changeable Weather that we wondered “will it ever stop raining” (it did) we met lovely people (cos “everyone’s local”) and incredibly we even saw a Red Cortina on the road! “The green and red of Mayo I can see it still the soft and craggy bog lands….the tall Majestic hills …where the ocean kisses Ireland the waves caress the shore …the feeling it came over me to stay forever more”

Home to the Oughterard 18-hole championship golf course, Derroura Mountain Bike Trail and Aughnanure Castle, there are lots of things to see and do, and located next to Lough Corrib, Oughterard is great for lovers of fishing. Just a short drive away in Roscahil is the pretty Brigit's Garden; with four main gardens and places to play, sit and relax, this is a great day out for all the family. Only 17 miles from Oughterard lies Galway City, where you can discover some of Ireland's long and varied history; visit Lynch's Castle, or trace the origin of the famous Claddagh Ring, which originated in a village near the shore of Galway Bay.
