What guests are saying
Amazing location handy for touring beautiful Roscommon and surrounding counties.
Hosts very friendly and accommodating. The peace and tranquility of the house made it difficult to leave but wonderful to return to.
Just home from a wonderful relaxing family break at "The Waters Edge" in a stunning setting.
Property had everything you needed offering peaceful surroundings while only 10 minutes away from closest town. An ideal location for doing as much or as little as you want. A big thank you to the owner Michael who met us on arrival to show how everything worked in the property. Hope to return for another break sometime in the future. (Stewart Family - July 2026)
Lovely clean and welcoming home.
Nice and quiet, great view of the lough, had a pleasant stay.
Superb location comfortable and clean.
Ideal base for anglers or just a quiet trip away from the hustle and bustle. Peaceful place, good for the soul.
A very warm and relaxing cottage.
It had everything we needed. The owner was very attentive to his guests and very friendly. We had an excellent stay. Thank you to Michael and Hazel.
Michael was very helpful with everything and went through everything with us and even rang me after I messaged him to let us come and check in early as we had a long day travelling.
When we arrived Michelle had all the heaters on to warm the house up and then showed us round every room and then showed us where everything was in kitchen and living room areas and how the TV works and hot water works and then went through the fire with me. Michael even popped in to see if we was ok with everything and to see if we needed anything and again popped by on our last day to say goodbye but unfortunately we missed him but he messaged me to say goodbye. Nothing was a problem. The view of the lake as well was amazing and parking was good. We even done as Michael asked and took the dogs for a walk .... Lol (they was lovely ornaments in living room and we had a joke) the décor was nice as well. Thanks for everything. William bracken
This is beautiful property and Hazel & Michael, the owners, couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful, even to the point of offering to cook the rather large joint I'd brought along if it wouldn't fit in the oven !
! It is well decorated and has many nice touches throughout in the general decor, like vases of silk/imitation flowers, the Labradors in the window and the model of how the property would have looked originally. The main living area, lounge/kitchen/diner, is very spacious and with comfortable seating enough for 6 people, the log burner is wonderful on a cold autumn evening, or during the day as well. The main bedroom is large enough to accommodate a travel cot if needed and the wet room ensuite is also spacious. The second double room is much smaller in comparison to the other two. The twin room is also spacious enough for a travel cot but lacks a wardrobe although a clothes rail is there to use it wanted. The beds are comfortable with extra bedding available if required. The second bathroom with shower stall is a good size. There are electric oil filled radiators in all rooms which certainly provided enough warmth for our needs. There is on-site parking. The view of the lake is stunning and we were fortunate enough to see the sun shining across it, no mean feat in October in Ireland ! Just a suggestion to the owners, maybe consider getting bunk beds for the smaller bedroom and make both the larger ones into doubles ?
A lovely.
Bungalow with plenty of space especially with my wheelchair I could manoeuvre easily around. Also a bonus is the gorgeous view over the lake. Found Michael the owner a very friendly man and offers of help should we need it. Making sure we had everything we needed. For a relaxing chill out stay it was lovely and would certainly recommend .
Beautiful cottage, lovely lake view with private jetty.
Owners Hazel and Michael very welcoming and we were greeted with an unexpected treat which we enjoyed. The facilities at the cottage were excellent and we are now Alexa converts. Would love to visit again.
Hi Carole, Many thanks for your kind comments. We would love to welcome you back to The Waters Edge in the future. Glad you enjoyed your stay. Regards Michael
Michael is a lovely person.
The cottage is in an ideal spot. Unfortunately which is not due to the owner the water pressure is very low. There are three of who stay there, we do like to eat out but most of the time we do like to cook. I feel that the whole kitchen needs a rethink with crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils. Maybe the furniture could be upgraded. It may depend on the holiday makers he gets, but we respect the property when we are there.
I am so grateful to you Carol for bringing those items to my attention..needless to say they have all now been rectified. As I had said at the outset to notify me if you needed anything at any time of the day or night and I would rectify it immediately…which I have now done..needless to say I only learned of all this when you were gone and then you text me..once again I apologise to you for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your feedback
This charming cottage offers a peaceful and rejuvenating retreat, with stunning views and a location that strikes the perfect balance between tranquility and easy access to nearby amenities.
Equipped with everything needed for a comfortable week's stay, it also includes a thoughtful welcome pack with essential items. Micheal, the owner, is warm, welcoming, and a pleasure to interact with, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Hi Russell, Many thanks for your very kind comments. I’m delighted you enjoyed your stay at The Waters Edge and I hope to welcome you back there at some point in the future. Kind regards Michael
Le logement est idéalement situé pour le groupe de pêcheurs que nous sommes, nous y avons été très bien accueillis et avons passé un très agréable séjour, avec une superbe vue sur le lac, nous recommandons vivement.
The shower would stop half way through kept knocking trip switch The views were brilliant buy showers need sorting out
Excellent cottage in a beautiful surrounding.
Lovely friendly hosts. 10 out of 10 every time.
A warm welcome from Michael.
A lovely spot with a stunning view of the lake and wildlife. A comfortable bungalow, well equipped. Some finishing off work needed around the outside. A cold week in June, with central heating not available. Oil fired radiators provided, which took the chill off, but didn't help with drying wet clothes (two days of rain). An outside clothes line would have been useful when it was dry.
I have stayed in many Hogans & Sykes cottages this one without a doubt is the best ever.
Fantastic view and the amenities at the cottage were v good. Well done to Michael the owner after 10 years refurbishing a derelict house.
Absolutely fantastic.
A lovely lady called Hazel called to show us how everything worked. The fire was lit a nice cream cake was in the fridge,a lovely treat. Beautiful setting and weather was fantastic. The circular walk around the lake is lovely
What a fabulous location!
Loved our time here.
The water side cottage is so cosy and comfortable.
It was perfect for our family of 5 (2 teenagers and a grown up child,) to relax and also entertain our wider family. The beautiful scenery blew us away. We were eager to explore, run and swim making the most of it all. There is little light pollution and On our last night the sky was clear. The show of stars were utterly breathtaking. I am especially thankful for the amazing hospitality of Michael, checking in with us to make sure things were going well, and Hazel who could not do enough for us. She gave us all the information we needed regarding " all the buttons" in the cottage. She was on hand if we needed her. She quickly sorted out that we could use the fire when she realised how important this was. She sourced some kayaks when I mentioned that I liked to paddle. (Thanks also to Rose for the loan) . The friendliness of everyone blew me away. I was able to go out on the lake with my biggest son, which was a real gift. I can't thank Hazel enough.
A fantastic cottage in an ideal location; we were really well supported by Michael and Hazel.
Five stars from us!
A beautifully designed modern refurbishment of a cottage in idyllic setting.
Offers a peaceful retreat in lovely surrounding countryside.
A real gem of a holiday home.
The inspired landscaping enhances what Mother nature gave us. The cottage itself is spacious, comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Thanks to Hazel and Michael for their warm Roscommon welcome.
Waters Edge cottage was the most amazing base for our Ireland holiday.
It is above and beyond what we expected and situated in a beautiful, pristine location with direct jetty to the lake. Ideal for anglers. Michael was very hospitable and friendly when we arrived, leaving goodies and fresh basic food in the fridge. Everything we needed was there. We can highly recommend this lovely place.
We absolutely loved it at Water’s Edge.
We had our 4 children with us and none of us wanted to leave. Comfortable , and had everything we needed . The surroundings are outstanding and the views of lake are stunning. Michael was a fantastic host, and we hope to be back. We would thoroughly recommend it.
Beautiful, peaceful spot, perfect for relaxation beside the lake.
Absolutely stunning place.
Better than you can imagine. Definitely recommended.
Micheal was very welcoming and helpful on our arrival he showed us around the property and it’s facilities, the property was comfortable, had everything we needed for our weeks fishing trip.
The location is excellent. Can’t wait to visit again. Dave and Dan
Fantastic, comfortable cottage with beautiful lake views.
Private jetty in front of house was great and I left my boat there all week, since the pike fishing was so good! Note: no petrol engines allowed on lake, so electric motor or oars only. The attached garage was good for storing fishing/boat gear.
Absolutely gorgeous location, beautiful cottage, stunning views, Michael the owner met us and really nice guy.
Place was immaculately clean, very well equipped and am so staying there again. If your into fishing there's a spot right outside the cottage. If your into views they are amazing and so well located to tour so many beautiful places in the West of Ireland, really cannot recommend this cottage enough.
What a wonderful place for a relaxing holiday
We were made very welcome by the owner (Michael) who left us some treats in the fridge, as well as basics like milk.
We loved the sunny room at the front with views over the lough. The cottage was well located for places to visit. We would recommend Boyle Abbey and Kings House in Boyle (which had a nice cafe in the courtyard outside), plus Carrick-on-Shannon. If interested in heritage, visit Rathcroghan Museum and Archaeological Trail, plus Strokestown Park House and the National Famine Museum (also with a good cafe).
Property host very welcoming and additional treats were a bonus.
Property was lovely with beautiful views across the lough. We would certainly use this property again when visiting family.
Lovely place to stay with lots to do around the area.
Cottage was very comfortable and even though the weather was not brilliant, we got out and about. the Great crested grebe on the lough were lovely to see as well as lots of mallard with ducklings. Michael was generous and helpful on our arrival. Also many thanks to Hazel who was so friendly and welcoming.
