The accommodation is spacious, spotlessly clean, and exceptionally well organised, with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break. The attention to detail was outstanding—and the welcome was unlike anything we've experienced before. The barn is set in a quiet farming community, just a 5-minute walk from the beautiful shores of Lough Derg—perfect for peaceful strolls and birdwatching. There are also lovely woodland walks nearby at Derry Crag and Derry Gill, offering even more opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Portumna Forest Park and marina (around 15 minutes away) is a wonderful place to walk and explore.
Practicalities are just as impressive: the facilities are excellent, with a well-equipped outhouse next to the barn for washing and drying clothes, and a tidy, easy-to-use setup for recycling and waste storage. The accommodation is well stocked with household essentials, which made our stay very comfortable and convenient.
Woodford village is a short 10-minute drive, and Portumna offers additional shops, cafés, and amenities just 15 minutes away. Whether you’re looking for quiet or connection, everything you need is within easy reach.
The owner and her daughter were very friendly and welcoming, always available if needed but never intrusive. Their care and attention really set the tone. It’s clear why this place is so highly regarded—the guest book, full of glowing comments going back 5–6 years, reflects just how special The Old Village Barn is. Not all guests book through Sykes, which speaks to the strength of its word-of-mouth reputation.
A perfect countryside retreat—peaceful, immaculate, welcoming, and full of thoughtful touches. We wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend it.
