“Our stay at this beautiful cottage in Magheroarty, northwest Donegal, was nothing short of magical.”

The house itself is a spacious five-bedroom modern bungalow, but what makes it truly special is how it blends contemporary comfort with a warm, rustic charm. The open fires created such a cosy atmosphere, especially after long days exploring the coastline. The large open-plan kitchen was perfectly equipped with every modern convenience you could need—from a tumble dryer to an air fryer—making it ideal for a large family gathering. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, ensuring everyone had a great night’s sleep, and waking up to sea views with lambs playfully frolicking on the front lawn felt like something out of a postcard. The location is simply breathtaking. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the cottage is just a short walk or drive from the stunning Magheroarty Beach. We made the most of it—swimming (bravely, in wetsuits!), hiking along the coast, and soaking in the fresh Atlantic air. There was so much to do nearby for all ages. Highlights included a memorable trip to Tory Island, a rejuvenating visit to the outdoor sauna at Portnablagh, and a fascinating stop at the Crolly Distillery. We also loved sampling fresh seafood and oysters from the local market and enjoying evenings in nearby pubs filled with traditional Irish music. Dining out was a treat, especially at Fara Óg’s restaurant, and the children were delighted with a visit to the local petting zoo. There truly was something for everyone. This cottage was absolutely perfect for our large family, catering effortlessly to a wide range of ages and interests. It provided the ideal setting for a very special holiday and family reunion—one we will cherish for years to come.
