“Accommodation definitely made the holiday.”

After spending the day out, it was nice to think of going back to the cottage. The house was so, so nice. In a few words, it felt like home from home, yet within an area of outstanding beauty. So nice to wake up in the morning and look at such beautiful scenery.

“The cottage is in a beautiful spot just outside the bustling town of Kenmare, lots of shops, bars, cafes.”

The cottage was very clean and well furnished. The beds were super comfy and it was really peaceful. Lovely big gardens, very well maintained, loads of parking space. The only thing that let it down a bit was little things, no kitchen scissors, no lovely big mugs, no wooden spoon, nothing that a trip to ikea couldn’t easily sort. Overall though, it was super and I would highly recommend the house.

“We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Oak Wood House.”

We particularly loved the sun room. With all our time in the house spent in this room, watching the birds and other wildlife that passed through the garden. We did need another comfortable chair in this room so used the one from the snug. We couldn’t find a sharp knife or pair of scissors in the kitchen, not sure if we just didn’t find them. This didn’t really matter, as we didn’t eat in during the holiday except for breakfast. The location was perfects for the beautiful and well served town of Kenmare an ideally located for all the delights of county Kerry. We all enjoyed our stay.

“Nice place to stay, but no sharing with the owner we didn't see him, we think he lives close but not sure they prepare an apple pie to us, it was kind.”

.. In the kitchen, not enough plates glasses and cutlery , the baking tray is broken. The house is big and the rooms are nice , many places and it is quiet place 4kms from Kenmare

“Oak Wood house is a beautiful house on a very peaceful location.”

Most of the time you only hear birds and sometimes a cow or sheep. It has everything you need. Simple things like a soapdispenser in every toilet are very nice. With a group of 4 ore max 6 there is plenty room to have some privacy if you want a moment alone. Very nice!

You have thought of everything that could be required for a stay. The location of your property is extremely desirable for those of us who enjoy the tranquility and space of the countryside, yet just a short drive to Kenmare for a little retail therapy. The Beara Ring truly does rival the Ring of Kerry, albeit on a smaller scale. Everyone we spoke to was extremely friendly and helpful. Thank you again for sharing your "home" with us.

“We loved the location of Oak Wood House which is peaceful with wonderful views.”

It is a spacious property with everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The beds are very comfortable, there were four sofas to stretch out on and plenty of outdoor seating too. We were pleased to be close to Kenmare which is a great little place and we received warm welcome in the shops and eating places. The boiler developed a fault the day after we arrived but the owner arranged for a plumber to fix it pretty quickly which was great. I would definitely recommend Oak Wood House.

“This property is not in Kenmare despite being shown as such on the Sykes website.”

It is up a narrow back road south of the river. Fine if you were seeking a quiet rural location but no good if you were expecting to wander into town for a drink or meal in the evening. The property itself is spacious, bright and tastefully refurbished with a large garden and pleasant sun room. Unfortunately the kitchen equipment provided is very limited and levels of cleanliness could certainly be improved. It is also worth highlighting that there is no Wi-Fi.

The location is fantastic for those seeking peace and a great starting point for day trips. Everything you need is available in the cottage. It is clean and everything is ready for the first fire. Shops are many available. From the organic market to the discounter, everything is easily accessible, and shopping is no problem after a day trip or an excursion. We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back.

Lovely location with beautiful views. The house had everything we needed; cleaning supplies, towels and bedding. Ideal garden for the boys to explore and lovely patio area. I would recommend this house for a relaxing stay with all the comforts of home.

It was a wise choice as the cottage was lovely and a haven of tranquility. The views all around were beautiful and the house was very comfortable with a lovely bright sunroom where l could sit peacefully and reflect . “So much space, great location.”

Needs more glasses (only 3 wine glasses) and a good, deep clean. The hot water didn't seem to be working (we switched on the gas boiler and it fired up but no hot water) and the fact that you can't have two showers running was a bit of a pain in the mornings. Might be useful to state that this is a rural cottage with limited water pressure. Good layout, lovely sun room and outside dining though. Comfy beds and big bedrooms.

Great space to relax and explore the local area from. Kenmare is a very nice, friendly, and busy town, with plenty to do and see in the area. The house is very nice but did have a lot of spiders inside, and could have been cleaner when we arrived. Great space outside to relax, enjoy the views and for kids to play.

“The owner called us a couple of days prior our arrival to let us know where the key to the house was kept and also advised that the standard check in at 3 pm is now delayed by one hour due to Covid 19.”

Meaning extra time for cleaning is required. When we arrived we were stunned by the view, it seemed this was exactly what we could expect for €730 for 4 nights. Our excitement was quickly replaced by disappointment the moment we entered the house. The table and kitchen counter was still dirty from previous guests, same with floors and couch which was covered with a blanket full of crumbs. Bits of food in dishwasher and mould in the fridge. I spend first hour cleaning the kitchen so we could use it. The worst part however is the terrible smell coming out of the upstairs bathroom which was out of service. I have contacted the owner about this issue and his reply was that a cleaner (?) had called a plumber the day before our arrival because there was a drip from the shower and a bad smell and that he was sorry that the smell has returned a day later after the plumber was there. Absolutely nothing has been done about it. The smell was so bad and it was coming into the whole house even through closed door and extractor fan being turned on for the whole time, we kept all windows opened during the day but nights sleeping in this terrible smell were dreadful. As mentioned on the other side the views were amazing and we loved the fire place in both living rooms. I would not return or reccommend this cottage to anyone following our experience. Not worth the money we paid whatsoever.

The property

This lovely country house is situated two miles from the coastal town of Kenmare in rural Ballygiffin.

This delightful property has been traditionally finished and boasts stunning views of the countryside making it an ideal base for a family or group of friends to enjoy their Irish getaway.

Upstairs there are three comfortable bedrooms, the master with an en-suite and balcony.

The house is finished to a good standard throughout and the ground floor offers a sociable open plan living area complete with exposed wooden beams.

There is a kitchen, dining area, and sitting area with a stone fireplace housing a solid fuel stove.

Also on the ground floor is a snug with solid fuel stove, as well as a dining area located in the sun room.

Patio doors lead out from here to the lawned garden, the perfect place for the children to run off the last of their energy or perhaps to enjoy a picnic on a warm summer’s day.

The popular town of Kenmare is home to a large selection of places to eat, or go for a drink and enjoy some traditional Irish music.

The surrounding countryside is a haven for walkers and a short drive will take you to the famous Ring of Kerry and the Wild Atlantic Way.

A trip to the Priest’s Leap is not to be missed for some breathtaking scenery.

This really is a superb house not to be missed.

Glengarriff 19 miles; Killarney 25 miles.

A picturesque town situated on the stunning Bay of Kenmare, overlooking the gleaming Atlantic Ocean. Beautiful beaches, wildlife and lovely scenery abound here. The coastline is rugged with sandy beaches close by, while pebble beaches surround the bay itself. Kenmare is an interesting town, full of character and colour, with long winding streets setting the scene for farmers' markets, artists' galleries, lovely little boutiques and some of the best restaurants in Ireland! The town is also situated on the Ring of Kerry and Wild Atlantic Way. The famous town of Killarney has an abundance of attractions, pubs, festivals and its National Park is about 35 minutes’ drive away, and though there is much to see and do here, the pace of life is still leisurely and unhurried.
