“Wonderful location in Cleggan overlooking the sea.”

Beautiful walks and beaches nearby. Pub, restaurant serving delicious and really well cooked seafood, shop and art gallery all just a couple of minutes away. Short drive to some of Connemara’s top attractions such as Kylemore Abbey and Diamond Hill near Letterfrack. House very comfortable and kitchen well equipped. We so much enjoyed our stay and hosts were very friendly. Thank you.

“The cottage is fantastically well-equipped and is in a wonderful position.”

Its own terrace courtyard at the back which is accessed through a sliding glass door from the main living room is a great place to sit and look out to the sea. The only reason I didn't give it a maximum score for 'comfort' is that the gas boiler had to be turned on and off a lot to ensure it wasn't burning fuel unnecessarily (and therefore costing a lot!) Comments in the guest book suggested that you could spend 100 euro on gas/electricity. However, by only turning it on an hour before a bath was needed, and turning off all radiators apart from the two in the living room which we used for an hour most evenings in late May, the cost for the week was only 20 euro. We also used the extra heater in the downstairs bathroom when in use. Clearer guidance on usage and cost would have been useful. Oliver's Bar and restaurant only a couple of minutes walk away was great, with lovely staff and food. Cleggan was ideal for us - a couple in their 60s who like walking and wildife. We walked from the property without needing the car for three days - we were lucky with the weather! A trip to Inishbofin is a must - with a boat from the harbour, again only 2 minutes away - leaving and returning at least daily in the season. A fantastic holiday!

Great for coastal walks or for jumping on the ferry to Inisbofin. Olivers Pub is just seconds away and is both friendly and with a great menu. We'll hopefully be back soon.

Location, facilities, information provided were all first-class. And the help given by the owner regarding our early wi-fi problems was much appreciated. Just one minor issue - the door to the double bedroom wouldn't close properly. Thanks very much for helping us have a lovely holiday.

“Lovely cottage in a great location with wonderful sea views.”

Extremely well equipped with everything you need. Helpful owners nearby. Lots of attractions close by and fantastic scenery in all directions. Cleggan itself has a wonderful seafood restaurant the Little Fish Cafe (less choice on the menu but quality and service so much better than the other pub/restaurant next door). The only negative was the very odd curtain arrangements in the two double rooms which got in the way on one side of the bed and did not cover the windows properly or keep out light. We think these need a rethink.

“A truly exceptional location, with wonderful views over the bay (with the occasional pod of dolphins) and the excellent Oliver's nearby as well as live traditional music at Newman's.”

Not forgetting of course the best crab meat that we have ever tasted. The property is very well furnished and we had everything that we needed: the private reserved parking space was helpful. It was also marvelous to be greeted by owner's local family members and we really fell in love with the place,even managing to fit in a few swims in the sea from nearby beaches.

“Property described which could not be faulted.”

One point that could be a little clearer is the fact that you have to pay for both the gas and electricity charges on departure which could be up to 100 euros plus so please budget for this. Remember to turn off the energy supply if not in the property all-day. All in all a good stay.

Only small issue to report was that we found it difficult to keep any heat in the house ,but maybe a factor to consider is that this was our first time to stay in a stone built cottage .Otherwise we found our experience most enjoyable,locals friendly and able to help even in the challenging circumstances we all have to live with. The views across the bay are lovely. Cleggan is a great base for exploring Galway as there are lots of places to visit in the area such as Kylemore Abbey, Connemara National Park, & Inishbofin Island as well as some beautiful beaches, loughs and even a fjord! There is even a local bus to take you into Galway City. Teresa King is a very warm and welcoming host who left milk, bread, butter & even a packet of biscuits to get us started on our Galway holiday. If you love spectacular scenery, good food (especially sea food) and a friendly welcome then Cleggan & County Galway is the place for you.

Extremely well equipped cottage with everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday. Cleggan is very quiet with some nice walks, weather allowing and nice restaurants/pubs. Inishbofin is well worth a visit and has beautiful beaches.

“Lovely house with superb view.”

Very clean and excellently equipped. Probably the best equipped house I've stayed in. Very close to local pubs, shop and ferry. Some nice walks from the house and the beaches are lovely - would be great for swimming in warmer weather. Overwhelmingly positive feelings about the house and very glad I booked it but there were a couple of negatives. The house does get cold when the weather is not so warm and doesn't seem to retain its heat too well even though the walls are very thick. The gas heating is good but could be expensive if left on for long periods (there are plenty of warnings about this in the information folder in the house). We turned off most of the radiators and heated only 3 rooms in the evening and on a couple of chilly mornings so we weren't shocked by the cost of gas and electricity at the end of the holiday. There was no information about where we could park though a word with the caretaker sorted this out - it would have been good to have this information before we got there or even in the information folder in the house. There was also no information about where the bins were situated so we just used the ones beside the adjacent houses. Fish and chips from the take away were a bit pricey considering the chips were from a packet and were not hand cut (a bit disappointing).

“This place exceeded our expectations!”

The views from the living diner and double bedrooms are breathtaking. There are plenty of things to see and do nearby as long as you have a car. Only issue is that we were charged €45 euros for gas and electric and the end of our 3 day stay which is over half our monthly bill at home.

“My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at King’s Cottage.”

The cottage was roomy with fireplace and a stunning view out the bedroom and kitchen/dining area windows of deep blue water and green hills. The village was small and we enjoyed walking to the grocery store and pubs as well as on paths through the village homes near the sea. Johnny King was very helpful especially when we had no heat on our first day. He shared many stories with us and also shared some of his fresh caught crab as well. He also pointed out a dolmen directly across the water from us and provided other information about the area. Our time there was perfect. A. If thank you to the King Family.

“Fabulous location for sight seeing around connemera.”

It's unique selling point was altlantic ocean was practically in back garden. Never got tired of changing views from bed room. Couple of pubs in walking distance which meant car could be parked up in the evening with good food available. Cottage had everything to make it feel like home from home. Intend to return.

“King Cottage is exactly as described.”

Everything is provided to make sure you have a great holiday. There was lovely brown soda bread, butter, milk, tea, coffee. Fully equipped kitchen. Central heating. Everywhere spotless. Plenty of towels and blankets. Would highly recommend this property. We travelled to Inishboffin on the ferry which is 2 minutes walk away. We walked the West loop which was really amazing. We went to Letterfrack, Connemara National Park where we did the Bog Road walk. This is a very easy walk just 3 km. Breathtaking views. Clifden is a lovely town to visit. Connemara is stunning. I am sorry it has taken so long to visit but I will be back. Olivers pub is great for food, drink and Craic.

“We had a fantastic time staying at King Cottage in Cleggan.”

What a beautiful cottage in an amazing location. The cottage was warm and cozy and had all the amenities that we needed. On the first day we awoke to a beautiful view of the sea as well as pod after pod of dolphins splashing around! We then saw a Heron, Cormorants, Great Northern Divers and a Seal! Amazing. The local area is beautiful. We holidayed in the winter which is clearly completely different than the summer. The locals were friendly and we had a lovely evening of Irish Rugby in the Pier Bar. We can not reccomend this cottage enough. Thankyou for a lovely stay.

The house was perfect in a beautiful location over-looking the harbour and the sunset we had on one or two evenings was spectacular. We were in a central location to visit places such as Inish-boffin, Cliften, Connemara National Park and there were beautiful beaches very close by. The owners of the house were really friendly and helpful and they left milk, butter, fresh bread and also dropped in fresh fish on our first day which was really appreciated and made us feel very welcome. We'll definitely be back.

Situated on the southern shores of sheltered Cleggan Bay, some 7 miles from Clifden, the picturesque village of Cleggan, County Galway, is both the centre of the sea fishing industry in north Connemara and the ferry port for the beautiful Inishbofin Island. The island, located 6 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean, is renowned for its fantastic beaches and scenery and is a haven for walkers, divers and birdwatchers. Boats for deep sea angling are also available for hire from the village. Just to the east of Cleggan, there is an amazing collection of prehistoric monuments including tombs, standing stones and pre-bog field walks. Cleggan is also well-situated for exploring this wonderful region with Connemara National Park, Kylemore Abbey and the vibrant town of Clifden, County Galway, all just 7 miles away.
