“This is a very special cottage in a very magical place.”

I absolutely loved every second of my time here. The photos do a good job of conveying the loveliness of the house and setting, but I was still gobsmacked when I walked in for the first time. It's warm, solid, comfortable, spotlessly clean, well thought out, and very well equipped with everything you could possibly need from kitchenware to books to entertainment systems to woodburning stove - and very comfortable beds. Being there in autumn, I even had a orchard full of apples to help myself to ...

Being there in autumn, I even had a orchard full of apples to help myself to. The location is superb, up in the Kilcash woods, looking out over the Suir Valley, aka the Vale of Honey, with lots of tranquil woodland and mountain walks on the doorstep. This is a perfect retreat, summer or winter. John is an outstanding host, always there when you need him but leaves you in peace when you don't. He has a rare affinity for, and knowledge of, the local countryside and its wild inhabitants - deer, foxes, bees, rabbits, squirrels and more - and is always ready to share their stories. To see John coming down the lane with his 4 (or is it 5?) gorgeous red and white Old Irish Setters swarming joyfully around him - it's a sight to warm the heart :). Thanks John for creating this little piece of paradise.

Well thank you so much Katherine . But really you were an outstanding guest , a real pleasure to meet and more than kind in your review . it always gives me a real kick when someone gets this place and just last week Lonely Planet included Tipperary as one of the best places to visit next year .So finally this beauty spot is getting the recognition it deserves . But your review sells it beautifully too. Thank you for both your custom and your amazing review . Hopefully I ll see you again next year. Property Owner

Kilcash Castle Cottage is a detached natural stone house situated adjacent to Kilcash Castle and Churchyard, (1190-1801), original Norman Tower residence of the Butler family, Earls of Ormond (Kilkenny Castle).

Completely renovated recently to the highest modern standards, it is nestled beneath Slievenamon, ( Mountain of the Women) and overlooking the entire valley.

Its location is both scenic and historically significant in Irish history, the lament for Cill Chais being the most celebrated poem and ballad in Gaelic literature.

The vantage point chosen by the Butlers offers views stretching as far as Waterford with the Comeragh mountain range directly to the south.

Popular historical locations such as Kilkenny Castle, the Rock of Cashel, Cahir Castle and the Elizabethan Tudor Manor in Carrick on Suir are all within a half hour s radius of this tranquil home in its cul de sac, the garden with orchard, pine grove and stream add wonderfully to the general setting.

The area is a thriving agricultural community with sports field and several tennis and squash courts available to use for a small visitors fee.

Two traditional pubs (1km) offer refreshment and occasionally traditional Irish music.

A shop and a pub are a short drive away for any essentials or a meal out.

Step into your new holiday abode and enter the welcoming living and dining area.

Pick your corner of the sofa or claim the armchair as you settle in and take in the magnificent exposed stonework that enhances your surroundings .Unwind into the furniture and turn on the Smart TV to find one of your favourite shows on Netflix.

If you prefer some quiet time, make the most of the other sitting room with a selection of books on offer, however, there is the option of another Smart TV.

Make the most of the fully-fitted kitchen with an electric oven and hob ready to assist you when cooking up a storm.

Plate the delicious food at the dining table to eat together.

Once you’re full head outside to appreciate the glorious views all around you.

Take in the beaming sun until it ebbs away for the night sky.

When the breeze gets chilly, head back in and warm up next to the woodburning stove.

Call it a night when you sense a yawn coming along on one of the upstairs double beds.

Start a new day off with a soak in the bath or a refreshing shower ahead of more fun activities.

Nearby towns Clonmel and Cashel offer cuisine ranging from fish and chips to Michelin star restaurants.

Hiking on Slievenamon and the Comeraghs is very popular and a wood walk (6km) with wildlife and views is only 200 yards from your new home.

Beach trips to Ardmore, Clonea and Tramore are but 40 mins drive.

For exceptional scenery reminiscent of Connemara can be found crossing the Vee and Comeraghs.

Pony trekking is available in Clonmel with riding schools in both Clonmel and Carrick on Suir.

Clonmel and Carrick have beautiful playgrounds for the kids with a bowling centre in Clonmel also.

Golfing enthusiasts are spoiled for choice with 18 hole courses such as Mount Juliet, Callan, Carrick and Clonmel all within a half hours drive.

The Blue way from Clonmel along the river Suir is beautiful and bike hire in both towns allow an alternative and safe option.

Fishing fans may try their hand on rivers Suir, Nore and Barrow, while sea fishing is close by in several small harbours along the coast.

Your new home awaits with many interesting activities but also the option to withdraw into the peaceful relaxing setting of two lounges, a modern kitchen, and spacious bedrooms after a days adventure in this as yet undiscovered gem in Irelands natural beauty.
