The Beara Peninsula sits in both County Kerry and County Cork, making it ideal for visitors to both Kerry cottage and Cork cottages.
The rugged landscape is beautiful and full of charm, and visitors can enjoy it by walking the 196km Beara Way, or driving the lovely Ring of Beara.
The Ring of Beara links, in a roundabout way, the village of Glengariff with the town of Kenmare. From Glengariff, you can take a boat trip to the Italianate gardens on Garnish Island, then head by road to Castletownbere past the rugged peaks of Sugarloaf Mountain and Hungry Hill in the Caha Mountains.
Boat trips can be taken from Castletownbere to Bere Island, then get back on the road and head for Dursey Island, which has nothing but sheep but is reached by a tiny cable car 30m above the waves - an experience which makes the detour worthwhile!
Pass through Allihies, Eyeries, Ardgroom and Lauragh before coming out to Kenmare, then heading via the Caha Pass, a precarious winding road literally through the mountains, back to Glengariff.
Whether you return to a County Cork cottage or a County Kerry cottage, this rugged peninsula will surely stay in your heart.
