The Ring of Kerry is a very popular tourist trail covering a 106 mile circular route which passes through spectacular scenery and is dotted with pretty towns and beautiful natural attractions. The route traces the coast of the Iveragh Peninsula, and can be so popular in the peak summer season that a one way system has been introduced, with car drivers travelling anti-clockwise round the route due to the difficulties in trying to pass on the narrow country roads!
A 'must' for many people staying in a County Kerry holiday cottage, the Ring of Kerry encompasses the best of the region in terms of beauty, variety and history - Skellig Micheal is home to unusual 6th century beehive huts, while the 15th century Ballycarberry castle is also on the route, as is the Neolithic stone circle in Kenmare or the stone forts at Cahersiveen and Castlecove.
Walking and cycling routes, golf courses, Torc waterfall, coastal trails and off shore islands, seafood restaurants, traditional pubs and the lace-makers of Kenmare - this truly is not to be missed for a great day out from your Kerry cottage, Irish style.
